Re: Who's gonna get cut?

We should trade Telfair or put him in a package for a big man.

Re: Who's gonna get cut?

So their options to clear some space is:

1. Let Blake walk since they have a team option for him this year
2. Hope Patterson walks since he has a player option this year
3. Let Charles Smith go since I think he only has a one year contract
4. Let Pryzbilla go since his contract is up this year anyway
5. Make a trade of some sort, remember Nash is refusing to do so but GMs don't always tell the truth....
6. Am I missing any more expiring contracts?

I'm curious what people think they a)WILL do and b)SHOULD do..........poll??

3 and 5. Is both what I think they should do and will do.

1. Would be incredibly stupid, and Nash is not.
2. Patterson would have to be pretty dumb (and sometimes he is) to do so, but planning on this would be insane.
3. No brainer. He barely is playing as is anyways.
4. It's pretty clear they plan to at least try to keep him, though he may choose to walk. I wouldn't plan on it happening, just be prepared in case it does.
5. This is what should happen, if nothing else one of our young prospects for a future pick (1st or 2nd depending on the player).
6. If you are I am too.

Re: Who's gonna get cut?

Why in the world would Ruben Patterson opt-out of his contract?

Put yourself in his position: "Hmm, I can either get 6.8 million for one season, or become a free agent where I'm almost guaranteed to get less that."

The Blazers fully expect Ruben to exercise his option. Sorry

Much easier said than done. If there were teams out there willing to take on Ruben's salary (and his baggage) then it would have happened long ago. I don't see Ruben being traded, not until he's in the last year of his deal anyways.

I dunno, you never know with Ruben. Especially since he was so adamant about getting a lot of playing time earlier (remember he demanded to be played 20+minutes/game) and I get the feeling he's not happy about coming off the bench. He is a little off kilter, he just might walk if in his crazy mind he can start and play more somewhere else.

Re: Who's gonna get cut?

To state the obvious, it's not a sure thing that the Blazers will keep both picks. They could try to package the picks to move up in the draft or include one of them in a trade. With as many young guys as we have on the roster, it doesn't seem that adding two more rookies would necessarily be a good thing.

That said, I still think that there will be a trade before the deadline that will bring back an expiring contract.
