Is Outlaw moving past Khryapa on the depth chart?

I have noticed lately that Travis offensive game has relaxed, and his defensive game has improved. His rebounding leaves quite a bit to be desired still. That being said, I believe lately he has been playing better then Khryapa, who has been playing out of control, and has at best, been offensively challenged. Some of his mental lapses over the last few games have been very poor as well. So that being said...Is Travis moving past Viktor on the depth chart?

Outlaw has earned the start

Khryapa just isn't getting it done right now. He's scored a total of 4 points in the last 4 games. You can say he does a lot of the little things, but last night the announcers were laughing about how anyone he was guarding could score at will. He just isn't cutting it.

Meanwhile, Outlaw has lately been getting similar minutes to Viktor and has been a nice piece in our bench scoring. I've got more faith in his three point shot, and he's scoring a decent 7 points a night on 50% shooting in under 16 minutes. His position defense isn't as good as Khryapa, but his ability to alter and block shots makes up for it. The rebounding isn't much different between the two, given minutes played.

We've lost three of our last 4 games. Yeah, 2 of them have been really close, and all the losses were against good teams. But I think a mini-shakeup is in order in the lineup.

I like McMillan as a coach, and I especially appreciate his willingness to experiment with different lineups. It's time to experiment again.

Re: Is Outlaw moving past Khryapa on the depth chart?

maybe it would help Kryhapa also; he seems to be playing a little nervous lately, missing easy shots and dropping passes, maybe he could get back on track coming off the bench.

But does being relegated to the bench again destroy any confidence the kid has? All players go through brain-dead stretches; as a starter, he's about due for one. Having him play through it keeps his confidence and allows him to settle down and get back into the groove.

Re: Is Outlaw moving past Khryapa on the depth chart?

Minutes will be tight when Miles returns. If healthy, Miles is a 30+ min player. That leaves little time for Outlaw and khryapa. I think it will be Outlaw who gets those minutes because he has the potential to come in and be a spark during a short time span.

It will be interesting to see how it develops. Maybe Khryapa will get some time at PF. Imagine how fast he will pick up fouls guarding PFs . . .

Re: Is Outlaw moving past Khryapa on the depth chart?

i'm not sure that starting is always the best cure for shakey confidence.

if your kid falls off a bike the second time he rides without training wheels, do you immediately force him to ride the bike without training wheels again? maybe, but not necessarily.

I think what's happening is that Khryapa wants to have more nights like he did against the Raptors (18 pts, 12 rebs), and so he's trying too hard to make it happen or something.

Coming into a game that already had a flow to it might help him clear his head.

Re: Is Outlaw moving past Khryapa on the depth chart?

IMO neither player deserves to start...they are both dogs with different fleas....

Outlaw CONTINUES to be lost out there on the floor...Seriously, I really question his overall IQ and ability to grasp offensive and defensive plays...and expecting him to get the nuances of the game seems hopeless....

He is athletic & he has a nice outside shot, but that is about it...he lacks agressiveness (particularly rebounding)...and he is horrible defensively for the most part..How many times did he lose his man last night? Travis was CONTINUALLY running to find his man...He gave up more pts than he got for sure...a couple of nice blocks\defensive plays do not make up for the SEVERAL bad defensive plays he has IMO...

Khryapa is just a non factor on offense right now...he can't hit an outside shot to save his life it appears....overall he is too tentative on offense...and he is foul prone...I think he has good bball IQ and recognition, but overall of late he has been just too much of a non factor on the offensive end and in general...

POR needs more scores...They cannot keep relying on Zach or Dixon to be able to provide the bulk of scoring...Miles will help...I hope...with this...much moreso than either Outlaw or Khryapa....

Unless POR is going after GAy or Morrison next year I don't see how you trade a 24yr old Darius Miles at this point...he is LIGHT YEARS ahead of Khryapa and Outlaw, and I don't see that changing any time soon...

Re: Is Outlaw moving past Khryapa on the depth chart?

One problem with bringing Viktor off the bench is that just means another player off the bench that can't score. I think he fits in will with the starters until Miles comes back. TheWanker made a good point about him probably trying to hard.

The very same games Travis has looked good in.

Coincidence?

Re: Is Outlaw moving past Khryapa on the depth chart? (merged)

I don't think you usually have problems with players trying to hard, I have heard of players having problems because they are always looking over their shoulder wondering if the coach is going to yank them. There is a big difference between playing scared and playing badly. The thing is my gut feeling is that he is playing badly, not playing scared.
