Re: Telfair: A Legend Far Too Early

Telfair is NOT going to be fine. The dude is too small and he can't shoot. Al Jefferson was clearly the better choice and he's been proving it with the Celtics. Telfair was the most idiotic draft pick in recent memory by the Blazers.

Re: Telfair: A Legend Far Too Early

Please, tlong. The most idiotic pick in recent memory has to be Qyntel Woods - unless your "recent memory" doesn't go back that far.

Telfair has a long way to go, but he's been through a lot, too. I think he'll turn out to be a solid PG, so long as he keeps working on his mid-range and outside jump shot and his defense.

Qyntel was picked near the end of the 1st round. Those picks are pure gambles. Telfair was a freaking LOTTERY pick! There's a reason no one had picked a small point guard straight out of high school before.

This is just not true. He was not the greatest. Not even close to the greatest. Lew Alcindor, Connie Hawkins, Stephon Marbury and many others were better than Lloyd. He grew up in St. Albans, Queens (I grew up in Hollis, not that far away) and got addicted to drugs.

The story of Lloyd is a tad overrated IMO. He was one of the best, but not the greatest.

First you say he wasn't even close to the greatest and then later on you say he was one the best...make up your mind...

This subject seems like a matter of opinion to me...

I would throw Tiny Archibald in there as well...

I'm from New York City, I know the ballers. Being one of the best and the "greatest" is two different things.

He's in that next tier of ballplayers behind some all-time greats.

You lose credibility when you stretch definitions to the breaking point:

Telfair was a lottery pick, but the LAST pick of the lottery.

Woods was picked in the 2nd half of the first round, but hardly "the end". There were 8 more 1st round picks after Woods.

Telfair: #13

Woods: #21

So you were around when Lew Alcindor, Connie Hawkins, Tiny Archibald and even Lloyd Daniels were balling in the city?.....I doubt your that old.

In fact seeing that your 24 tells me that you were 8 when Daniels was in his prime on the playground...

But he's from New York. The world revolves around New Yorkers.

Maybe, but what I said was still true. The 13th pick was in the lottery and #21 is certainly "near the end" as I stated. I think you would agree that getting a solid player is much easier with the 13th pick than it is with the 21st pick.

Re: Telfair: A Legend Far Too Early

Another difference between Woods and Telfair is that Qyntel slid to Portland on draft day, while Telfair was a reach on draft day.

That certainly doesn't determine whether one or the other player is going to have a better career (and, indeed, the jury is still out there) but it indicates whether, on draft day, the team maximized its draft position.

Zach Randolph was another draft slider, and he worked out great. I can't think of any relatively recent Blazers that felt like reaches on draft day and then went on to exceed expectations, although I might just be drawing a blank.

No, I don't agree that it is MUCH easier. Easier? Yes. But, not by much.
