Re: Zach Randolph: Perimeter Threat?

Re: Zach Randolph: Perimeter Threat?
If Zack can ever learn to dribble the ball from out at the top of the key, he would have another way to score effectively. That may be a cold day somewhere though.

Re: Zach Randolph: Perimeter Threat?
Hopefully he doesnt become Derrick Colemanesqe. I used to really enjoy Zbo's aggressiveness down low and from what you guys are saying that its not really so anymore

Re: Zach Randolph: Perimeter Threat?
I still fondly remember him tearing apart the Mav's inside defenders during the playoffs a couple years ago when they forced a game 7 after being down 3-0 in the series...the whole team seemed to rally around his aggressive post play.

Re: Zach Randolph: Perimeter Threat?
If Zach has decided to not play as much on the low post as he used to - then he is now on the wrong team. This team needs him (like Sheed before him) to BE the low post presence demanding a double team. If that is no longer Zach's style of play - then HE should be moved to another team. We need a low post guy. It makes everyone else better.
Zach on the outside = lower % makes, fewer rebounds, less room for "real" outside shooters.
Stay inside Zach, please?

Re: Zach Randolph: Perimeter Threat?
I too hope that he gets his big butt down low. If not, Brian Skinner will end up being our biggest low post threat. Ugh.

Why does Zach HAVE to be the low post guy? What if Miles continues to develop his low post game? Or Outlaw or Webster develops that game? What if, with practice, Randolph becomes a 20 ppg player on 50% shooting with a nice mid and long range game? What if we draft our low post guy this offseason or next?
Dallas doesn't have a dominant low post guy, and they look pretty good right now. Same with Detroit.
We are so ridiculously bad right now that it's absurd to say we should absolutely ship out one of our top two players because he doesn't play the same way he used to. It's the same kind of bad reasoning that said we'd be better off without Sheed.
Besides, with his huge contract, we aren't going to trade Randolph for anyone worthwhile for years to come (unless you like the idea of a Steve Francis-type). We might as well figure out how to use him.

Webster? You're joking, right? Having Webster work on a low post game would be disastrous, IMHO, when he hasn't even begun to finish working on his outside game. Outlaw is a slasher / outside shooter and has a nice combination going. Could he post up? Yes. Would he ever make that his primary weapon? Probably not.
All teams need a post presence, even if a minimal one, just to keep the opposing team honest.
An added problem with our team is that we couldn't rebound if the ball was placed in glue and all the other team's players went home. Pulling Zach out of the low post just eliminates another body available to rebound.

You seem pretty sure of how Webster and Outlaw will play five years from now. Considering Outlaw looks terrified half the time he's on the court, and Webster was getting ready for his high school prom last year at this time, I doubt even they know if they'll be a low post threat by then.
At 6'7, if Webster does develop a low post game he's going to be brutal against a lot of this league's shooting guards. Can you imagine Juan Dixon trying to guard him in the post?

for a good laugh, I try to imagine Juan Dixon guarding anyone.
Go ahead, give it a try. You'll be laughing soon too. Or crying. one or the other.
