Relieved: Nate comitted to Blazers
Good to hear, seems to contradict or maybe clarify what he said a few weeks back. I am also glad to hear he will try to take more of a active role in managements decisions.
Quote:
Let’s make sure Nate McMillan’s comments of last weekend aren’t misconstrued. The first-year Blazer coach is not contemplating quitting at season’s end.
“That’s not the case,” McMillan says. “I’ll do what I always do at the end of a season — take a look at myself and how I’m doing and what’s best for the organization. But I plan to be back. I have a five-year deal, and I’m committed to it.”
McMillan is the best thing the franchise has going, and he’ll use that leverage to take a major role in player personnel decisions this summer. He didn’t have that opportunity last summer.
“The plan was basically in place when I was hired,” McMillan says. “I’ll have more input as to where we go and what we do for next season.”

Re: Relieved: Nate comitted to Blazers
I wonder if they've considered firing Nash and just moving Nate into the GM role. There aren't a lot of coaches who can pull off GM duties as well, but Patterson and Paul Allen both seem pretty active in roster decisions. It already feels like GM by committee.
Anyway, if we're committed to Nate McMillan, we might as well commit to Nate McMillan type of players. Whatever we do in the offseason, we should work on getting decent half court players who can play defense, and get rid of guys who are more transition-type players. See what we can get for Outlaw and Telfair.
There's no point in having race horses if you want them to pull a wagon.

Re: Relieved: Nate comitted to Blazers
yeah hopefully allen will have less say
why get rid of telfair and outlaw when its miles dixon blake etc
trading telfair is a dumb idea after all the work Nate up into improving Telfair which he has, tlefair is almost as good a blake who has a ton more experience.

Re: Relieved: Nate comitted to Blazers
I'm fascinated to know what Nate expected when he signed up.
If the plan was already in place, was he promised a bigger say in personnel decisions? Or did he think that since he had a long-term contract he could demand it?
I'm not sure that I want Nate McMillan telling the team who to go after and what moves to make. I prefer to keep the coach as the coach and the GM as the GM.
Of course, at this point, I might prefer Nate to our current GM, but I'm betting that we'll have a new GM before too long.

can someone seriously give a reason why nash will be fired?
what exactly has he done that would warrant it?

ahhh Hap did you have to open that can of worms again? Just do I search of Thread titles with "Fire" and "Nash"...you will find 1001 supposed reasons. Not that I agree or disagree with any of them. I betcha the names Telfir, Paul and Webster top the list...

#1: His contract is up. He doesn't need to be fired.
#2: Have you seen the Blazers' records since he took over? SOMEONE needs to be fired.

He wouldn't be fired. He just wouldn't be rehired. I do think it's a subtle but important difference.
