Miles & Martell To Start?
Could be.
From Blazers Beat
Quote:
So Friday was Meeting Day for the Blazers, as promised by coach Nate McMillan following Thursday's blowout loss to Dallas in the Rose Garden.
McMillan said he met with Darius Miles, Zach Randolph and Juan Dixon on Friday, and here's the jist of what was determined:
It appears that Darius Miles will now start again at small forward. This comes after McMillan read in The Oregonian that Miles was complaining about his right knee becoming stiff when he finishes warmups and then heads to the bench.
"I did talk to Miles today about his play,'' McMillan said. "And I read the comments, and I have seen the stiffness he says he's experiencing, so we may look at the possibility of putting him out there when he is warm, starting him. We will talk about it more tomorrow.
"My question to him was how can I help you? He does look a little stiff coming off the bench, and he did mention it to me this morning as well as to you gys in the press. I will talk to him tomorrow, see how he feels, and see if that is the way to go as far as getting the best performance from him.''......
........Also, Dixon complained of a sore knee, and it appears McMillan is preparing to sit Dixon for a stretch, probably creating a starting opportunity for Martell Webster at shooting guard, McMillan said.
"Dixon has been dragging his leg for at least a few games,'' McMillan said. "So we may give him some time to let that calm down, and look at possibility putting Martell in the lineup.''

Re: Miles & Martell To Start?
Excuses, excuses, excuses, I hope Mr. McMillan doesn't give into Miles. The coach should be in charge not Miles!

One thing that really surprised/baffled me was this portion....

He tried calling Darius on his cell, but kept getting voicemail.

I've seen him riding the bike when he wasn't in the game, and I assumed it was to keep his knee warm/limber. Maybe he stopped doing it?

Re: Miles & Martell To Start?
In 4 weeks it will be Dixon complaining on how he shouldn't have lost his starting job due to injury.

Re: Miles & Martell To Start?
You guys ever notice the inflated number of injuries team has had since we started sucking? Every other day someone is hurt, it's amazing. I don't remember it being like this when we were good. I guess it's easier to nurse an injury when there's nothing at stake.
P.S. Miles should be starting. He was playing his best ball before the injury, and Vick didn't prove to be worthy of taking Darius' spot permanently.

Re: Miles & Martell To Start?
I don't buy into all the hype regarding Miles- he's still our second best player, he's just coming off of an injury and the oregonian is too dumb to see this.
Do you guys remember all the talk about Randolph supposedly not putting in the effort, while he said it was the injury slowing him down? Time has proved that Zach was right- he's been looking tremendous recently.
Miles deserves the same consideration.

ok, so what about the games before he was hurt? Or what about the games where Zach, just a week ago, sucked? It's a little too convienent to say it's an injury problem when Darius hasn't exactly *ever* given consistent effort or played solid D.

Re: Miles & Martell To Start?
I think nate is doing the right thing. If Miles can't step it up after three or four games starting, then he is out of excuses! Now is your chance to show what you can do Darius, don't blow it.
