Interesting bit of information. I never thought of how a players income would be divided between the states where the games were played at. But that makes sense since the income was actually earned in other states.
Although I'd guess that the effective total NBA players tax revenue for Oregon would be the same as I previously thought. If the Blazers players have to pay income tax to other states they play in, then they would get a tax credit on their Oregon tax. Or they may be able to simply exclude the income not earned in Oregon. So the tax we get from the visiting players is really a wash.

They are important because they pay a TON of taxes, do great things in the community, etc.

Re: Paul Allen Q&A
I know Beer... I mean we know how important they are... but who from the city or state has acknowledged that? We give take breaks to businesses coming in... you'd think we'd be a bit more concerned about one getting ready to pack up and fold.

perfect find ABM. we don't know how good we have it (from a financial standpoint).
yes, things are bad now, and things haven't been run great in the last 10 years, but don't throw out the bathwater because the baby farted in it.

Go to this link to see an exciting chart. Everybody loves charts! Maybe you can post the chart as an image. I don't know how to do that.

Re: Paul Allen Q&A
Someone used Columbia Sportswear as a comparison - but in case you forgot, Vera Katz and her fellow loons running the city council effectively forced Columbia to move to Washington County.

Whether it's directly speaking to agents and working deals (something I've never read Paul's various managements reveal), or hands off/indirectly by hiring professionals to run the club, or something in between, ultimately ownership is responsible for the decisions made.
I'd guess it's more of the hands off/letting his management do their job then running the day to day operations/working the phones for trade possibilities or running the draft. Bob spoke to occationally being frustrated about wanting to do deals but Paul being off on one of his massive yachts and not checking in on his satalite phone. He also spoke to having long conversations with PA throughout the year concerning the direction of the club. My impression is that management and Paul discuss the direction of the club, management takes steps to impliment this, and then once the deal is in place comes to PA for final approval.

Then don't you think that their is the possibility of deals being out there that our GM thought would make us a better team and Allen nixed them....
Maybe more responsibilities should be placed on the owners shoulders when things go awry than they do now...

The people of Portland seemed to change significantly between say 84 and 91. I was in the military during that time. When I left... people were nice... friendly... smiled... you knew your neighbors... and when I came back, well... people just are not as friendly anymore. I don't think I would have noticed the change if I'd lived here the whole time... but going away and coming back it sure seemed different.
|
I think a lot of that has to do with the influx of a lot of Californian's...
j/k, no offense to you Cali's...

Re: Paul Allen Q&A
It's pretty clear by that chart that Allen's fortunes (pun intended) took an immediate reversal on the very day GW threw his hat in the ring for the Presidential race, so I feel Paul is mis-directing his wrath on us poor (pun intended again) fans.
