Morrison the logical choice?...
Thats what Geoffrey C. Arnold thinks....

Should the Blazers receive the top pick, they would be hard-pressed not to draft Morrison, a junior who is likely to declare his eligibility for the draft. The nation's leading scorer plays for Gonzaga, located in Spokane. The school has developed a cultlike following in the Northwest, and selecting Morrison would create an instant buzz to counter what has been a stream of bad publicity for the franchise.

Re: Morrison the logical choice?...
While I'm not actually opposed to getting Morrison. "Instant buzz" and "local kid" are terrible reasons to draft someone in my opinion. Draft the one that helps the team the best. If that's Morrison, then the extra buzz is a bonus. Wins will help this team draw much better.

Re: Morrison the logical choice?...
I think Morrison is obviously the logical choice. The Blazers need "Instant Buzz" and Morrison will obviously bring that. This year, I think they should draft a leader, someone who can lead their team far into the tournament, but a player that also has potential. So Im interested to see how Morrison, Aldridge and Gay step up in the '06 tournament. And Im also looking forward to Bargnani's draft workouts this summer, I really think that Andrea would have a nice chemistry with Telfair, Zach and Co.

Re: Morrison the logical choice?...
I think if POR ends up with the #1 (unlikely to occur though IMO) then I would think their decision would boil down to Morrison or Aldridge...
Is Aldridge a future center in the NBA? How sure is POR that they can resign Pryzbilla?
Tough call, for me at least....I think Aldridge will be a solid NBA player, whereas Morrsion has the potential to be a very good NBA player, or go the unspectacular route of Keith Van Horn....
I would rather see POR go for Morrison and hope his uncanny abilities and intensity translate to the NBA game as well...

Re: Morrison the logical choice?...
The Blazers cannot afford to gamble on another project with this pick. Aldridge has the physical skills, but has not proven to be consistent enought to warrant the pick.
Morrison has the heart that Van Horn, Dunleavy, etc do not have. His heart and passion for the game will translate to the NBA and his high basketball IQ has improved the quality of play from his teammates over the last three years at Gonzaga. His offensive game is proven, which is what the current Blazer team is lacking.

Re: Morrison the logical choice?...
IF POR keeps winning this thread will be a moot point...

Re: Morrison the logical choice?...
He's one of a few logical choices.
Morrison (if he declares for draft)
Aldridge (if he declares for draft)
Bargnani (if he declares for draft)
Any further down in the pecking order and it slips off really fast. If he's selected, it means Miles and Outlaw become expendible IMO. Khryapa has too many intangibles to let him go. Plus he's the mirror image (opposites) of Morrison.
I think Morrison or Aldridge are my hopefuls. Aldridge has the potential to become a center with scoring and defense. Could be a nice Theo replacement in a year or two, as first BIG off the bench. Bargnani also fits here.
Morrison is definately top 3 pick - no matter who is selecting.

Re: Morrison the logical choice?...
Seeing as all the top guys other than Bargnani will be in the tournament this year I'm excited to see how they do. We think that Aldridge might be this monster but what if he goes up against Leon Powe in the second round and gets stomped? We think Morrison will be able to transition into the pros but what if he goes up against a scrappy Indiana team and gets shut down? The draft land scape could look very different in a month.
