Back when Paul was willing to spend an enourmous amount of $$$ on players, ANY ONE OF US could have put together a winning team. Dont give Bob so much credit.

Re: Drexler wants a piece of the blazer pie
And getting back to the point of the thread, I think a new ownership group incorporating popular Blazers of the feel-good era would surely be a good thing, at least in the realm of public perception (which is currently KILLING the team). But they better be sufficiently capitalized to be able to afford to pay for good players. Allen/Whitsitt, even for all their mistakes, are a hell of a lot better than pre-2003 Donald Sterling.
But I'd be somewhat fearful of Clyde as GM. Hopefully he wouldn't pull an Isiah on us...

Re: Drexler wants a piece of the blazer pie
Clyde wasnt exactly known for having a strong work ethic as a player. Makes me doubt his effectiveness as a GM etc.

Drexler, 43, says the potential principal buyer also wants to include ex-Blazers Terry Porter and Detlef Schrempf, among others, in the ownership group.
Schrempf confirmed he had been contacted by the Portland man about being a part of the purchasing group, but said planning is in the preliminary stages.

If they called Schrempf, you have to think they also called
Kenny Anderson
Greg Anthony
Stacey Augmon
Ruben Boumtje-Boumtje
Sam Bowie
Kevin Duckworth
Chris Dudley
Mario Elie
Gary Grant
Harvey Grant
Lionel Hollins
Darrall Imhoff
Jerome Kersey
Joe Kleine
Fat Lever
Maurice Lucas
LaRue Martin
Calvin Natt
Robert Pack
Will Perdue
Rumeal Robinson
Arvydas Sabonis
Rod Strickland
Mychal Thompson
Otis Thorpe
Dave Twardzik
Darnell Valentine
Slavko Vranes
Bill Walton
Kermit Washington
Lenny Wilkens
Alvin Williams
Buck Williams
Walt Williams
Dave Wohl
Joe Wolf
Qyntel Woods
Danny Young
I'm serious. Okay, not about Qyntel. And sorry if any of those guys are dead.
An ownership group of former Blazers seems kind of scary to me. When things go wrong- sorry, if- - no, let's stick with 'when' since we're talking about Drexler (sorry Clyde)... when things go wrong, we'll have these polished, smiling former hometown stars to blame instead of a sneering, evil billionaire owner with yachts.

Re: Drexler wants a piece of the blazer pie
I tried looking for a list on the web of the top 25 or so big business's here in Oregon, with no luck. I'd be curious to see what other large company's around here (besides Nike) have the $$$ to buy the Trail Blazers.

Blazers put out the Fire; local bidder dismayed
The 11th-hour bid by Clyde Drexler and Portland businessman Terry Emmert to save the Portland Fire is over, but not because the NBA or the two aspiring partners didn’t want it to happen.
Not long after the NBA transferred ownership of the WNBA franchises to NBA owners in each of the cities, Emmert — a season ticket-ho | |
