Duin: Just How Creepy Can Paul Allen Get?
Surprised nobody posted this yet.
Column from Oregonian writer Steve Duin
Cut your losses, Paul. Sell the team. We're at the point where we're both better off without each other.

Re: Duin: Just How Creepy Can Paul Allen Get?
Everything Duin referred to as "creepy" seemed totally legit to me.
There's no inconsistency on Paul Allen's part to say (a) he's responsible for the decisions that were made, and (b) he wishes he hadn't listened to the people he hired to provide basketball expertise.
There's no inconsistency on Paul Allen's part to say (a) we signed the deal with the Rose Garden creditors, and (b) bankruptcy was a legitimage option to take following the creditors' unwillingness to renegotiate.
There's nothing WRONG with Paul Allen regretting that he spent so much money without winnign a championship.
At some level I'm amazed at the lack of gratitude that an article like Duin's shows... but at other levels I'm not surprised in the least.

What newspaper prints stuff like this?
What newspaper in their own sniveling little way has contributed to the decline of the franchise with its constant drumbeat of negativity (make it up if need be); set you up to knock you down school of tabloid "journalism"; endless demands put upon the franchise - that if met are ridiculed and mocked; and the hiring, nurturing and protecting of envy driven hacks?
Oh, that's right, same paper. Oregonian.
When the Oregonian prints a public and hearfelt apology admitting their bias and campaign against the Blazers, the MAYBE I will listen to them ***** about whoever or whatever.
Duin's article oozes slimy hypocrisy. If he was trying to look like a tool - good job Duin. Good job.

Re: Duin: Just How Creepy Can Paul Allen Get?
I don't see where Steve Duin ever said what was "creepy" about Paul Allen. He only used the word "creepy" in the headline.

Personally, I would have said "haven't won" instead of "didn't win."

Re: Duin: Just How Creepy Can Paul Allen Get?
I also find it hilarious that he accuses Allen of being a poor businessman after his net worth has increased to make him, what, the 6th richest man in the world? On balance, I think you could make the case for him being pretty darn good.
I can't stand the Oregonian sometimes...

Re: Duin: Just How Creepy Can Paul Allen Get?
Duin was one of the first hardcare Blazer hating writers for the Oregonian. I was very happy when he stopped writing about sports.

Paul Allen is going to sell the team, Stern can't force him to keep the Blazers. I see 4 options for the Blazers.
1: Las Vegas
2: Vancouver
3: San Diego
4: Oklahoma City

They should have two teams in Detroit.

Stern will make sure Allen sells the team and he'll make sure the team stays in Portland.
Hey Paul!
See ya.
Wouldn't wanna be ya.
