Porter confirms there are discussions...

with a local group about him becoming part owner...

Quote:
Former Trail Blazer Terry Porter confirms he’s involved in discussions with a local group that would purchase the team. He says talks are in the early stages and he can’t comment on it at this time. Clyde Drexler and Detlef Schrempf are among the other ex-Blazers contacted by a Portland businessman who wants to put together an ownership group.

Very cool....Porter can be GM along with Det's business acumen to help him. I love Clyde but I don't think he would be a good GM.

Re: Porter confirms there are discussions...

If it's Ron Tonkin, I don't think I could support the Blazers any more. I'm serious.

I have a lot of respect for Terry Porter. But if we end up with an ownership group that includes a half-dozen egomaniac ex-Blazers and NBA players, I'm afraid the stew will end up resembling something else entirely.

OK, that made no sense. If you've got Schrempf, Drexler, Mini Mouse, Dudley, Porter and god knows who else involved, what kind of infighting is there going to be concerning the direction of the team, general rebuild strategy, and specific personnel decisions?

I can see Kiki, Dudley and Porter working together and coming to common ground and making good decisions. Maybe even Detlef, I don't know. But throw in guys like Drexler and Mouse and who knows who else, and suddenly my optimism goes right out the window.

There is much to learn from the Jordan and Thomas debacles.

maybe Paul will have a co-owner type thing gonig.

doubtful, but it'd go miles (no pun intended) in improving the image of the team.

I say no way in hell PA would do that.

Porter in the Blazers' front office I like. An ownership group made up of multiple ex-Blazers... I'm not sold on.

Re: Porter confirms there are discussions...

I know of one ex-Blazer that I would be happy to have back in management.
Geoff Petrie. By the way, where is Wayne Coopper that went to Sac when Petrie did. Dudly could be good as well.

Overall, I was pretty impressed with the variety of looks that the Blazers had on offense, between the endless pick-and-roll combinations and the occasional isolations, they've got to be a pain to prepare for defensively.
