Re: We should draft Glen Davis.
Is he more Charles Barkley or Gary Trent?
I've only watched him once and his mobility, attitude, and BB skills impressed me. If he wants to get to the basket either to score or rebound, he won't be stopped. He truly is Shaq-like (against college competition) in that sense.
This guy was the tailback on his highschool football team. He can run and he isn't afraid of contact.
I started wondering if he had superstar ability. He's not experienced enough yet to be great, but talk about the big potential!! Can he keep the weight off, does he want to play basketball, etc.
I doubt he lasts very long in the draft -- if he comes out.
I remember nobody wanted to take a chance on Barkley either. FWIW.

Davis is fairly mobile for how big he is, I wonder what he would be like if he lost 40 pounds? I could see him as a Malik Rose type, but that's a role player and not a star. Role players can be anybody, so I don't focus on them as future Blazer starters.
I hope we package our pick(s) in a good trade, but I know that's a lot to hope for.

From what I understand he already lost 50lbs from when he was in HS, and feels that he is now at his optimal weight. It's hard to argue with that since he was never expected to amount to anything basketball wise, but now is being looked at as a first round draft to the NBA. If he lost more weight he would just be a short Center, but at least now he is a short, but unmovable Center. And since he grew up even heavier, his body is very used to his weight and that is one of the reasons he is as moble as he is. I do think that he is going to be a great addition to a team out there, however in the end I see him as a 20 minute man. He is just not worth a high pick.

Re: We should draft Glen Davis.
I think the concerns about Glen Davis are namely his height & weight..
The fact that he is primarily a post player, a PF probably, but stands only 6'8 with average at best athleticism is a concern, you add to that his weight 300+ lbs and that adds even more concern...
This isn't football...For the most part 300lbs guys that are under 7ft tall don't usually excel in the NBA...and certainly you have to wonder if he can keep the weight off...since most guys of his girth (oliver Miller, Robert Traylor) have not been able to do that...
Look, Zach is a 6'8-6'9 PF, slightly undersized and not overly athleticl so players like that CAN excel, but I think Zach is definitely the exception to such players...there is a slew of similiar 6'8 or so PF types whose games just have fizzled in the NBA...Corliss Williamson comes to mind...
and even if best case scenario comes true and he turns out a similiar style player like Zach, do we need two of them? And I don't think the chance that he turns out that way is THAT likely as to pass on other prospects as good or better than Davis is...

Re: We should draft Glen Davis.
Because he is vertically challenged for being a post player - we should pass on him and opt instead for any of Thomas, Aldridge, Bargnani.
Say No to Tweeners.

It's Oliver Miller all over again (although had Oliver had a little self control, he would've been a good player).
The Blazers 2nd pick maybe. 3rd pick sure. but the first? not on this planet.

Re: We should draft Glen Davis.
Zach isn't tall, nor athletic. However, Zach has really long arms. Glen Davis has T-Rex arms, very stubby arms for someone 6'7".

Re: We should draft Glen Davis.
Davis will do fine in the NBA at power forward even if he is only 6"8". He will easily over-power most players who are 6'11". He is ready for the league right now.

Re: We should draft Glen Davis.
What about Shawne Williams?
I thought HE was the best player POR could pick?
But what I really want to know is will he be a better pro than Al Jefferson?

Obviously I changed my mind. I am allowed to do that, aren't I? I don't want to break any forum rules or anything...

Re: We should draft Glen Davis.
I don't think Traktor or Oliver are good comparisons from a physical standpoint. Glen is much more muscular than either.
I think he has the potential to be an Anthony Mason type player. A blend of banging and SF type skills in a twener body.
