Frankly I would much rather see us trade the #1 (assuming we get it) + Detroit pick + 2nd rounder for two picks in the top 10. Unlikely I know but damn I would love to snag Morrison and a big man.

Great post i agree.

I think that's a "worst case" scenario in regards to that pick, but (a) there are some darn good prospects available at #'s 10-15 in a strong draft, and (b) the drop from #1 to #5 this year might not be that significant.
It's definitely a gamble, but while the "worst case" scenario is us getting a 10-15, the "best case" scenario is adding another lottery pick in next year's draft.
It would be a gamble worth taking IMO.

Re: Trading Draft Picks: Would You.....
I also would deal #1 for #5, #35 and an unportected in 07'. Who knows, one of the "big" 4 could fall to us. If not, our backup options, Gay and Roy, would not be bad picks at all.

OK, let's say we do have the #1 pick and Toronto has the #5 (earlier, I did mention a high) pick and, for whatever reason, they desperately want to ensure they get their guy - say, Morrison.
So, my thought here was, we trade the #1 and #30 pick to them for the #5 and their next year's 1st pick. Then, we take, say, Rudy Gay ths year and ____? next year. Potentially two lottery picks next year?
|
I'd do that in a heart beat, we'd get either Morrison, Thomas, Aldridge, Gay, or Bargnani. A strong case could be made for any one of those 5 being the top pick.
The only exception might be if they worked out Bargnani and he just blew everyone's mind, he's kind of the unknown x-factor in this draft, in which case it might be worth keeping the #1 to grab him.

The only way i would do it would be on draft day.Trade out first this year and out 30 or second rounder miles or zach to toronto for bosh their pick this year which is 5 and then next years first rounder.

Re: Trading Draft Picks: Would You.....
I like your idea Edo, but I don't think Toronto would go for it. They'd probably think the same thing - that one of the big guns can fall to them. So what's their motivation to give up their #1 pick next year?

Not necessarily Goldie. Toronto is stocked at C/PF/SF right now. Okay, not stocked, but at least set.
Bosh, Villanueva, Rafael (haha), Peterson, and even maybe Sow (he's got that potential tag for some reason). They most likely will bring back Mike James and they have the one rookie that has impressed as well at PG. So in reality they really need a SF/SG, which would come in the form of Adam Morrison. They dont need the other big 4 PFs.

Re: Trading Draft Picks: Would You.....
I don't see them wanting Morrison that bad. He's not a surefire star (and if he was, why would we want to trade him?). Rudy Gay or the guy from Washington could be enough to satisfy their SG/SF needs.
