They aren't. The Blazers are just doing everything the el cheapo way, and not caring about burning bridges along the way.
Ed - do you ever have an opinion, or is everything "Well, I can see it from both sides"?

Sometimes.
Actually, I do have opinions about most things, but I understand that the reason there are disagreements is because there are two sides to almost anything and that reasonable people can disagree. Except insofar as things impact me directly, I try not to judge.

Steve Patterson's contract is up after next year...
I'm not sure how the broadcasters get paid and all that, but I have a friend who is one of the guys behind the camera's when you're watching the game on T.V. and they get paid a certain amount per game and then when the season's over they are fired, so that it allows them to get unemployment and then when the season starts backup they are re-hired.

David Locke got the Seattle job: Link
Quote:
Locke was reportedly chosen over FSN's Brian Davis and Brian Wheeler, the Trail Blazers play-by-play man and former KJR sports-talk show host.
NOTE: Former Sonics coach and basketball Hall of Famer Lenny Wilkens is expected to be named as Calabro's color analyst [on tv] if negotiations go as expected, a source with knowledge of the talks said Thursday.

Re: Wheels on his way to Seattle?
Wheels looks for another team EVERY summer. I don't blame the team if they find a new play-by-play guy. The guys I think they should keep longterm are Mike Barrett and Mike Rice. It wouldn't be the same w/o wild Rice. Barrett is very good at what he does.

Re: Wheels on his way to Seattle?
It's a shame that Locke is leaving KJR...I always enjoyed listening to his show. He's a bit eccentric, NBA & stats obsessed, but he is (was) my favorite personality on there...oh well, this is his dream to do PBP & he's planning to do some things with the website and broadcasts that sound pretty cool, hopefully it works out for him. He's a big Sonic homer, probably helped him get the job, heh. He becomes only the third PBP guy in Sonics history, behind Blackburn and Calabro...pretty big shoes to follow in.
Lenny Wilkens...blech, "captain obvious" as the color guy. Apparently they didn't look very far for Ehlo's replacement. I can't imagine KC leaving...when the Sonics were painful to watch, he's the reason I still did. I hope he's around another 10 years at least.

Re: Wheels on his way to Seattle?
David Locke had to sit through a few seasons of Storm basketball doing PbP... he's earned the gig.

Don't forget that Wheels used to be the Monarch's PbP guy. Not to mention having to announce this past season is more dues than anyone should ever have to pay.
