Wheels on his way to Seattle?
Apparently, he's on the short list of candidates to replace Kevin Calabro as Sonics play-by-play guy.
Last year, the Lakers. This year, the Sonics. How badly does this guy want out of Portland?
Although at least he is the dark horse to get the job.

Bring back the Schonz! I don't care if he misses things, at least the losses would sound better.

Re: Wheels on his way to Seattle?
Calabro is leaving? Why? He's one of the best IMO.
As for any Blazer employee, I'd leave too if I had the chance. Wheels could find himself out of a job with new ownership. This instability is going to kill our competitiveness. Wheels is only a harbinger.

Re: Wheels on his way to Seattle?
The scary thing is, if we lose Wheels, don't be surprised if the short list is Todd Mansfield and Bob Akamian.
Kill me now if I have to listen to those dolts call the game. We already have a second-rate color analyst. At least let us keep one of the best play-by-play guys in the game.

And you think Seattle is a better spot if you are looking for stability?

Yet another sign pointing to Paul Allen buying the Sonics.

Re: Wheels on his way to Seattle?
well if wheels does leave, it shows a few things.
1. he's better than we think
2. the managements idea of year to year contracts is moronic
3. they sure as **** better not **** this up by replacing him with some jabroni.
if he leaves, congrats to brian and hello not listening to games on the radio...Antonio + anyone = worse than Antonio + Wheels.

Re: Wheels on his way to Seattle?
I wouldn't read much more into this then what it is. Wheels has been here for years and been good. Sometimes in life you have to look at where you are at, and decide if you want something better. If Wheels decided a year or so ago that he needed to earn more money and enjoy life a little bit more, I don't hold it against him. More power to him. It might not be about organizations at all, but more about quality of life.

He's not leaving. They just have simulcast previously and now he's only doing FSN broadcasts. The Sonics need a radio pbp guy.
I agree that's he's one of the best.

Our competiveness is already dead (although not "dead" in the sense of gone forever, but you know what I mean), but otherwise I agree with you.

Re: Wheels on his way to Seattle?
Wheels gets a one-year deal from the Blazers - year after year.
Why would he NOT keep is options open???

good point. what kind of loyalty are they showing brian (and the others) that they only have them on 1 year contracts?
Is Steve Pattersons contract up yearly?
to me, brians contract being up yearly is a sure sign he's not THAT important to the team. So if he leaves, I wouldn't be surprised that he'd go to a team that'd offer him (god forbid) a 3-4 year deal

Re: Wheels on his way to Seattle?
In the tech industry, often I used 1 year contracts to get by in between jobs. That is no way to be living. I can tell from experience, you think about the day your contract is going to be up every day, and what you are going to do in order to make a living from that point out. You can't depend on your salary levels for thinking about stuff like home loans and such, you can't even depend on having a job. A lot of people might argue that you can't really even depend on having a permanent job, but at least you don't end up stressing out about it all the time, and you have a brighter future knowing your income level is going to be steady unless something bad happens where you work.

Re: Wheels on his way to Seattle?
I get the sense that the broadcast industry is pretty cutthroat. I don't really blame the Blazers for not signing Wheels to a long-term deal (if one year deals are relative standard), but I wouldn't blame Brian for one second if he decided to go to the Sonics or anywhere else that makes sense for him.
