Okay, I would have thought that some of you would have been talking about this already.
Coming into work today I was listening to 910 the Fan. Mr. Cowherd read from the Seattle Times that Paul Allen has hired an outside firm to look at both of his professional teams. Cowherd read that Bob Whitsitt might be gone by this Summer, from both the Blazers and Seahawks. Both the Seahawks and Blazers will be looking to clean up their images and dead weight.
Has anyone else heard this? I check the Seattle Times, but couldn't find the article. Anyone???

If this is true, I think that we as fans are in for one hell of a ride. Things are going to really change if Whitsitt is gone. But who would replace Trader Bob?
There was also mention that Portland needs to look at more than talent when drafting or trading! Could this really be true?
Kinda got me thinking how neat a change would be in Portland!

He said he would only come if He could bring in Lenny Wilkins as coach.

I hope we don't go after the ATL Gm that was recently let go.... He's a nice guy..but look at the bone head moves he had made in the last 2 years :
Traded 2003 Lotto pick / Kukoc for Glen Robinson
Traded the draft rights of Pau Gasol for Shareef Abdur-Rahim
Traded Jamaal Tinsley for a future pick
Maybe Clyde Drexler as GM ?

I assume that if Paul hired, in essence, a consulting firm, then it is likely that he would recieve good advice about his new GM as well. Let's face it most fans are sick of Whitsitt and that is truely the target of most Blazer related anger. Public Relations is what will save Paul from losing money and right now hiring a name we are all comfortable with should be high on Pauls list.
Names to consider
Buck WIlliams
Terry Porter
Mike Dunleavy
Chris Dudley
Those are all guy's that I believ cereberal enough to doa very good job as GM.

Duds as GM? No thanks. Maybe in a few years once he is an understudy ala BJ Armstrong in Chi.

That's a good thought. Porter as GM DUdley as Assistant GM.
ALthough I still say Buck would be great. He never had an agent, he represented himself, + was the VP of the players Union.

Buck would be Kick Arsss! This is a quality man!
My other thought is Pip might be making a play for this spot. Can't let MJ outdue him at every corner can he?

I wish we could read this article Colin Cowturd is talking about. Anyone?

For whatever it's worth, I felt the Cowherd report (which I also heard this AM) was open to interpretation.
From Cowherd's report, I got something slightly different than Howie.
It sounded like Allen did indeed hire a consulting firm to evaluate profitability of the two franchises. The article went on to say that among other things, they would be looking at the corporate hierarchy and eliminating excess and overlapping positions.
Colin then added that there were a lot of high paying positions with the Blazers. I felt like Colin added on his own that Whitsitt was making $5mil per and the consultants should look at him. My interpretation was that Whitsitt's job security was not openly in question.
As I too haven't seen the article, Howie could be correct.
Just offering a slightly different perspective on the topic.

I did NOT hear the report.
However, I would take anything that Cowlin Cowturd says with a grain of salt. He's about as reliable as the Iraqi Information Minister. He's one of those wannabe insiders. But the truth is, he's never broken a reliable story.
Everyone remember when he big news last fall and said that Damon would be traded the next day? Yeah, that happened alright.
He may have made up this story, for all we know? And you know what? He accomplished his goal if he got just one more person to listen to him.
I never have listened to his radio show and never will. Cowturd has never proven himself of any value to me. Just my two cents worth.
