OT: Knicks to fire Larry Brown?
If any team in the NBA is in worse shape than Portland, it has to be the Knicks. Rather than blame their miserable season on their underachieving players, it looks like they're getting ready to dump Larry Brown for Isiah Thomas. I can't wait for the Knicks to stink it up with Thomas at the helm.

Isiah is like George Karl - no matter how badly things go, it is always someone else who is to blame.

It'll be one of those "you want to turn your eyes away but you're compelled to watch" kind of thing.

At least it (hopefully) won't be Blazers 2006/2007, though!

Re: OT: Knicks to fire Larry Brown?
You know, when Larry Brown took that job I thought he had lost his mind. Totally, absolutely, lost his mind.
Now I think he is a genius. He got bought out by Detroit, was allowed to sign a five year sixty million dollar contract with the Knicks..
And now they are going to buy him out for forty million dollars, possibly. He is going to get paid fifty million dollars for one year of coaching, people. Plus whatever he got from the Pistons. He will also probably be able to coach again next year, possibly the Kings. Where he will get paid tons of more money, from the Maloofs.
This man is genius.

yeah but then the owners could stop the Hairy Blown Town scaled sceem and not hire him agian just so he could get paid and jump ship thats worse than what players do!
If i was an owner I wouldnt touch hairy with a 100meter pole! then i would tell all my owner friends about what hairy is doing so NO team hires him and force him to coach in the Mexican league or better yet the new Mexico City Aztecas that was just expanded the league.

It's not quite that good, because once you get hired by another team, the former team stops paying you (I'm pretty sure) - coaches don't get guaranteed money like players do, so it's not like Michael Finley, getting paid by the Mavs AND the Spurs.
HOWEVER, of course each team has to up the ante if they want Brown, knowing that he'll be paid handsomely (or king's ransomly) for NOT coaching.
I'm not sure this was Brown's plan: I think he thought he could force Isiah out. He SHOULD, as, of the two, I know who's better at his job.
Apparently it's a toss-up between the Warriors (because Chris Cohan is a neighbor and friend of Brown's) and Sacramento. Brown would have fun with Sacramento: let's see how he gets on with Bonzi (assuming they re-sign him).

I'd be very surprised if Brown took either of those jobs. He's 65+ and in poor health. When he was hired by the Knicks, he said it was going to be his last coaching position. Also, both of the above positions are on the other side of the country, and Brown just relocated his family to Long Island.
On the other hand, he probably doesn't want New York to be rememembered as his last coaching job. If the Knicks let him go, it will be interesting to see if he retires or takes one more coaching position.

Re: OT: Knicks to fire Larry Brown?
Here's the latest twist in the Larry Brown saga from his agent Joe Glass, and it's not good news for the Knicks.
Quote:
|
"There's been no discussion of a buyout and there won't be a discussion of a buyout," Glass told the New York Post for Wednesday's editions. "We're not going to accept a settlement. He's coaching the Knicks or they're firing him -- one way or another. There's not going to be a $25 million buyout."

If this is true, the Knicks may set some kind of record for paying people who are NOT part of the organization any more:
Last season
Shandon Anderson - $6.7 mill
Jerome Williams - $6.7 mill
Alan Houston - $19 mill
Scott Layden - $5 mill
Lenny Wilkens - $5 mill
Next season
Larry Brown - $40 million

Re: OT: Knicks to fire Larry Brown?
What's amazing to me is that supposedly part of the reason they don't want to keep Brown is because they'd have to replace players with people who play more of Brown's style. Well.....duh!
Was this some sort of amazing news? A revelation? Those players were put in place by Isiah, who so far looks like a terrible judge of just about everything. I didn't think that there was any way that Isiah could appear dumber as a manager than he has, but apparently he's able to consistently outdo himself. Must've been some personal competition between him and Jordan again sparking the whole thing...
