Wallace has the most post scoring talent in the League.

In noticing Rasheed's efficiency so far in the game it just got me thinking about how good he is in the post. Everytime he takes it down low its an automatic 2, sometimes 3 if he gets the foul. He commands so much attention down there. I love it when he takes it down low... nobody's better in the post than Rasheed. Keep throwing it down to him, he'll get us the big win tonight.

Shaq doesn't have low post "talent", he's just a big body who overpowers everyone. Duncan's great, through I'll agree with you there.

What utter nonsense.

Either you don't understand the game or you have Shaq-hatred which is blinding your judgment.

Shaq is the best post-player in the game today. He posts, shoots the ball out to the arc, reposts two to three feet in, and now he is in a position of power.

From there, he can turn baseline for a jumper, go the middle of the key for a little jump hook, turn on his heel to go inside and lay it up or dunk it. His feetwork is phenomenal and his decision making is excellent.

Shaq is the most dominant player in the game. BUT, I don't think he's the best "post" player in the game.

"shoots the ball out to the arc"? What imaginary arc are you referring to? His shooting range is limited to the "no-charge" circle and that's about it. Every once in a while, he'll throw something up, but most of the time, Shaq bulldozes his way and then dunks on someone. The other times, he grabs a pass, and dunks it hard.

Duncan is the best post player in the game by far. Sheed may have better moves down low (particularly turnaround post J's), but Duncan actually uses a "pivot" step.

What you euphamistically call "reposting" is Shaq dislodging his defender with his backside and shoulder, using power to drive his defender back under the hoop, not technique to get that position.

That's why I don't believe the, "Sure, Shaq commits a lot of uncalled fouls but he also takes a lot of uncalled abuse, so it all evens out." The fact is, Shaq commits his fouls first, to take the "positions of power." At that point, with him unfairly right at the hoop, the defender has no choice but to grab and / or hack him. The abuse Shaq takes is forced by the fouls he commits in getting position.

FWIW (how many times has this subject been debated in the history of the internet? a lot...), I think the truth about Shaq's skills is somewhere in the middle of what people are saying.

He's not the best skill-wise, but he's CERTAINLY more skilled than the vast majority of big guys in the NBA. Couple his skills with great size, strength and singularity of purpose (there's a REASON he doesn't shoot from outside: because he can score inside almost whenever he wants) and he's easily the most effective (and, therefore, IMO, the BEST) player in the NBA currently and probably over the last 5 years or so.

I think RON was refering to the no-charge zone arc. Please... how can you say Shaq has "SKILL" in the low post? Yes, he is more mobile and stronger than most centers, but in no way do his skills compare to any of the top 8-10 power forwards in the game. C'mon Ron, keep bashing our team... it only makes us stick by our team more.

I am neither a Blazers fan or Lakers fan actually I cnat stand the Lakers, but what so people fail to see and realize is that Shaq being that size is a gift and or blessing most individuals dont have. At the same time he has unbelievable agility for a man that size that being said, do you realize the glut of moves Shaq has. He can drop step from either foot, he has that turn-arond hook. That spin tear drop move, the power stop and dunk. I mean when you are that size you dont have to finesse anyone because of how big you are, at the same time you have to give him his due for the moves he has in his reptoire

Perhaps I should clarify. What I meant is he passes the ball to a teammate, then he reposts deeper and the ball comes back to him...at least, that's the plan in most set plays.

I see this statement a lot on these boards, but the high frequency of the statement doesn't make it true.

Perhaps you don't get to see many Laker games. Or those that you do, his task is so easy inside he doesn't have to take his shot outside.

His shooting range is about 10-12 feet, but this year he taken far less shots from the outside and has been much less reliable with that shot. He loves the baseline jumper from the opposite corner to most right-hander's strength, and has been very reliable with it...except for this season.

Nice try, Minstrel, but once again you have mischaracterized by statement.

He does repost. The original post might be 9-12 feet from the bucket on the low post, he'll kick it out, repost to about 7-10 feet. In the repost, he is not doing anything you describe above.

What you are describing is when he is driving towards the bucket, and has nothing to do with his reposting efforts in the triangle.

I am not referring to him driving to the hoop. I am referring to his back-to-the-basket dislodging of defenders, forcing them further and further back, just using his bulk to power them back under the hoop, and then raising his hand to call for the basketball to be entered into him.

That is the type of "reposting" Shaq does.
