Trade for this summer
Would you do this deal.
Rasheed Wallace to Toronto for Carmelo Anthony and Antonio Davis
ANthony becomes the SF of the future (Woods to SG) and Davis enables Portland to allow Davis to walk. This would just be a start to the offseason.

There is no down side to trading Sheed for Carmelo. Sheed doesn't have leadership or heart, Carmelo might. I would rather get younger and change the chemistry of the team.

What is the advantages of Antonio Davis over Dale Davis?
I think Dale does an adequate job. He did well last night at rebounding. He plays a role, and he is not disruptive to chemstiry. A few years ago yes, he complained about playing time, but not now.
So what do you think the plusses of bringing AD to the team.
Why not just trade for the position in the draft to get Carmelo?
and trade Sheed for other players who might get us a stronger C or PG....?
There are other ways to skin a cat

Antonio isn't an improvement over Dale. I'd say they are about a shove. The advantage is this. If Portland is going to start being a little more money concious ( which I am sure they will) they can replace DD withaout adding more $ to the Roster.

I'm not sure Toronto can absorb his huge salary without sending a high priced player back.

First of all, Toronto wont trade for Rasheed IMO.
Do they need inside help? Yes. But why trade Carmelo for a PF that has never played up to his potential. Carmelo could become a great player. He would do nicely alongside VC. The Raptors will have the "other superstar/star" they have sorely missed since TMac left. I dont see Toronto trading Carmelo.

I think Detroit may be willing to trade 'Melo (if they do land a top 3 pick , via Mepmphis *Otis Thorpe trade*)
Ptg : Chauncy Billups
Sg : Richard Hamilton
Sf: Tayshaun Prince
Pf: Rasheed Wallace
C : Ben Wallace
WIth Rasheed, they'll own the East

No way.
Wallace is a top-10 power forward right now. Anthony is several years from being a top 10 small forward, and he might never get there.

You might be right, but Sheed is becoming the next coming of Uncle Cliffy. Sheed IMO is getting worse, not better. He defends well, Shoots a nice three, but takes way too many, and is moving further and further from the post. We can't rely on him to get others in foul trouble any more. I like Sheed on our team if we have a superstar next to him, but we don't have anyone even close.

I'll ask you, then: who (other than Bonzi) was the last non-superstar to score 45 points in an NBA playoff game.
Maybe we DO have something closer to a superstar than you think.

Well... since it was a franchise record in points in a playoff game.... no one... as far as Blazers.. for a long time..
and as for anyone else.. well Dirk last Saturday...
that is the first big game Bonzi has had for ages... he has been MIA.... but I love it..
When he and Sheed are both on... we are very tough
We are very tough when we decide to play team D also...
together those 2 combinations make us one of the best in the league.. it just has not shown up fully in the Mavs series yet
a nice close victory Friday.. and another 90 second offensive wonder again against Dallas Sunday woud send a message to their minds... we are back
