OT: Got a spare 9 minutes?
Quote:
On an August morning in 1978, French filmmaker Claude Lelouch mounted a
gyro-stabilized camera to the bumper of a Ferrari 275 GTB and had a friend,
a professional Formula 1 racer, drive at breakneck speed through the heart
of Paris. The film was limited for technical reasons to 10 minutes; the
course was from Porte Dauphine, through the Louvre, to the Basilica of Sacre
Coeur.
No streets were closed, for Lelouch was unable to obtain a permit.
The driver completed the course in about 9 minutes, reaching nearly 140 MPH
in some stretches. The footage reveals him running real red lights, nearly
hitting real pedestrians, and driving the wrong way up real one-way streets.
Upon showing the film in public for the first time, Lelouch was arrested. He
has never revealed the identity of the driver, and the film went underground
until a DVD release a few years ago.

Not something I'd recommend doing, but man what a ride.

WOW! A buddy of mine bought a Ferrari Modena about a month ago. It sure is fun to ride in. Too bad he wont let me drive it.

Wonder how he would do on the Banfield during rush hour?

Re: OT: Got a spare 9 minutes?
Pretty intense video. If the quality was better it would be like a preview of what racing video games like GT will look like in a few years.
There is a similar video of a guy calling himself the Black Prince that takes a motorcycle at breakneck speeds around Paris, but I think he sticks to the highways.

Wow, that's exhilerating! It must have been on a Sunday morning, because there was very little traffic on the streets.

Re: OT: Got a spare 9 minutes?
Having spent a few months in Paris on business, that was really cool. I recognized some of the streets and I couldn't imagine doing that kind of speed on them. Thanks much for the link.

Re: OT: Got a spare 9 minutes?
Wow, I'd love to see a hi-res version of that. It gets really crazy when he gets to Montmartre, the last two minutes or so.

Re: OT: Got a spare 9 minutes?
Awesome find!
My French teacher in High School showed that movie in class. (Why Grant High School owned that movie, on filmstrip, I have no idea... doesn't seem especially educational to me.) But it was definitely one of the best days in French class ever...
"C'était un rendez-vous"... awesome.
