Blazers post first interview transcript - Oregonian responds
The first (of many, I'm sure) quibble between the Blazers and the media.
The Blazers posted the transcript of Jason Quick's interviews with Steve Patterson on their website today.
And Jason Quick of The Oregonian quickly took issue with one of the errors on the transcript:
Quote:

But again, I'm not going to quibble about every little thing. I just thought for them to suggest I would say it's "not unfair" for me to cast Paul in an unfavorable light was ridiculous. It was either a rookie mistake or a veiled attempt to cast me and The Oregonian as having an agenda against the organization. You be the judge.
|
I think I'm going to side with Quick on this one. I would give the Blazers the benefit of the doubt had this not happened before with the Paul Allen interview they conveniently cut certain parts out of before posting on the website.
Keep your eyes open, folks. This could be the beginning of a new contentious chapter between the Blazers and our local media.

I just like Quick complaining about errors and not shedding light when he got Zach's rebounding totals for the 2003-2004 season wrong. He said he averaged 8.4 rebounds that year, Zach averaged 10.5. I guess it is too much work for a journalist to go to the hard to find sites such as blazers.com, yahoo.com, espn.com, etc.

That excerpt quoted above really makes no sense. What is Quick babbling about? The irony of a "professional" writer who can't make himself clear.
Maybe the rest of the article makes sense, but I refuse to give their website any "clicks".

Oh god. The mutual hatred of Patterson, Quick, and Canzano is just going to continue to poison the well for the Blazers in Portland, as all sides keep doing stupid and petty things to each other.
I wish all three of them would get fired.

First quibble? New chapter? It's one long chapter that started a while ago and is still going.

You're saying they're 0-for-2, what is Quick's record?

Re: Blazers post first interview transcript - Oregonian responds
I read the entire transcript of the interview posted on the Blazers' website, and Jason Quick comes across as very abrasive and disrespectful. Perhaps there's some history between Quick and Patterson that I'm not aware of, but the guy comes across as a big-time jerk. Patterson seems to be talking to him only because he has to, not because he wants to.
There is obviously some bad blood between the Blazers management and The Oregonian. It comes through loud and clear in this interview.

If the recording was not clear, the two statements could have sounded alike. In fact the difference is small.
I read the whole transcript, it was not a friendly interview. Interesting comments on Al Jefferson that I had not known (how he would not come to a workout or take any tests).

If the Blazers are going to do this, they had better do it WITHOUT CENSORSHIP. Any other way of going about it smacks of an agenda - and those kinds of things don't sit well with the free-thinking people of Portland. At all.

Amen to that. Without censorship and without changing quotes to make them appear better or to make the media appear worse.
I don't like this at all. To me, it comes off as unwarranted paranoia when what the organization needs to be focusing on is getting things right inside its own doors.

Why anyone would give Quick the benefit of the doubt is bewyond me. He can't even recollect the facts correctly.
