A Global Spectrum Prospective
I know this isn't draft stuff, but maybe this will help shift gears a little bit for those who are sick about breaking down Morrison, Gay, and Roy....
I talked with one of the higher ups at Global Spectrum today about the variety of things, mainly concerning me getting a job when I graduate college in a couple weeks. However, he showed a really nice video of all the additions we'll see next year at the Rose Garden, and they are sweet!
Some other things of note:
- He doesn't see the Blazers moving anywhere.
- He doesn't expect the current situation to be resolved this summer, but he thinks there is no way it could be like this two years from now.
- He wouldn't be surprised if Global Spectrum is no longer in control of the Rose Quarter five years from now.
- Global Spectrum feels they own about half the value of the team (mainly the good stuff w/o the bad), so coming to a fair price when trying to make a sale is going to be difficult.
- Paul Allen is easily his biggest client, puchasing 16 front row seats through Global Spectrum at full price! Basicallly Paul Allen is helping to make the Rose Quarter profitable despite the fact they are in competition with the Blazers in terms of ticket sales.
- The Trail Blazers own another 12 seats in those 1st few rows, also transferring revenues over to Global Spectrum.
- All club seats will have access to unlimited food and non-alcoholic beverages. He said flank steak and pasta would be a typical meal served to club seats owners. The first 5 rows will not have access to the food and beverages.
- They have no problem selling the 5th five rows of seats, but only sold on average 600 of the 1800 club seat.
- Luxary Suites were about 40% full, but hopes the remodel will help increase that number.
There was a lot more, but I can't remember it all off the top of my head. Feel free to ask any questions about things I didn't cover because I may have left it out and I'm going to get another chance to talk with him shortly.

Interesting info... but I found the quote above hilarious. They dont own ANY of the "team", they own the arena the "team" plays in, that's it.

Wow.
I am not sure if that is funny or disturbing. Maybe TINCE can shed some light on what he meant?

I think GSP is talking trash. Like when you claim to own someone on the court . . . you don't actually own them, but you do own them . . . GSP should have just said that the Blazers are their *****.
Thanks for the info tince . . . I found it interesting.
Do they really have to block out female dog . . . they even say that on tv . . .

Actually, it's more absurd than that. Global Spectrum doesn't own the team or the arena. Global Spectrum *manages* the arena.

Ah - "owned" as in "pwned" as in "all your bases are belong to us!"

Ask him what the terms of the contract between PAM and Global Spectrum are.
Ask him for detailed financial results for the Rose Quarter operations this past year.
Ask him if he'll give free courtside season tickets to barfo for asking these questions.

I probably didn't explain this very well, and he didn't get into much detail so I don't know how in-depth I can get, but I'll try to make more sense of it...
There's value for the actual Rose Garden itself, such as the building and the property it is on. In addition, there is value to the premium seating that Global Spectrum can gets a lot of revenues from. This revenue takes away from the value of the team/franchise if someone were to only buy the team and not the Rose Garden. Global Spectrum feels the potential of premium seating revenue is worth a lot more than what the Blazers think.
I don't know if this example is true, nor if it makes sense, but I'll try in attempts to turn my words into a picture with this example.
- The team and arena should be worth something near $300.
- The Rose Garden (not counting premium seating revenues) is worth roughly $80.
- Global Spectrum feels ownership of premium seating is worth another $70-$80 million.
- The Blazers feel their franchise is worth roughly $200 million.
* So Global Spectrum would sell the RG and their premium seating access for $150 million. The Blazers want $200 million for the team because that's what they feel its worth. The problem being for both sides to get what they see as a "fair" deal, someone would have to pay $350 million, $50 million more than the two entities are worth. Both sides are confident that their figures are correct, therefore it's going to be difficult to make a sale.
For those of you who are looking for a hole in my example, I'm sure there are plenty, but it's because I don't have all the facts. Hope that helps...

I will ask for all three...
I probably could get some information about PAM and Global Spectrum's deal, but I don't know how much more he'll give me when it comes to revenues.
You have no chance of getting courtside tickets because those sell themselves. Club seats on the other hand are a different story. I belive face value on the club seats are $96-$115 per game, and the prices won't go up despite the addition of unlimited food and beverage.
Last year they gave away a pair of club tickets for a game to anyone who would sign up for their mailing list, so it's possible they'll do it again.

lol...you know things are going bad when they are giving away $200 worth of tickets handfuls at a time.
I went to the Kings game last March for signing up, and you better believe I have another email address or two to sign up with next season if they offer it again.
Anyway, glad I could contribute to this board. Rip City!
