Re: Checketts?
I have family in St. Louis and go back their often, (In fact, I'm going back there in October)....They are far from a basketball town, in fact I would consider basketball the 4th most popular sport there...I've always talk to them about an NBA franchise moving there, like the Grizzlies were going to before moving to Memphis and they said there is zero chance it would happen, mainly because during the football and hockey months the Blues and Rams draw to big of a crowd and there is much more interests in those sports than basketball....
btw stockfire, how long have you been a Cards fan? my uncle played for them throughout the 80's, I've been a huge Cards fan ever since...The electricity that they bring to that city in the summer months is really cool..

Re: Checketts?
I wasn't here when all of the Vancouver wants the Blazers stuff went down.
Vancouver is an awesome town...I think it is much cooler than the STL. That said, Canadian markets do not have a strong tradition for supporting franchises. Much of this has to do with economic differences.
I just don't see the Blazers leaving for STL or VBC.

Re: Checketts?
Ken Dayley! Awesome. I remember watching him. Wow. I've been a Cards fan for a long, long time. I haven't had a chance to go back see new Busch, but I will.
Ed O:
I thought you were implying that not keeping a team 40 years ago, which is why I offered the example. I asked your opinion out of sheer curiosity rather than a smug response.
I also want to state that it's not my opinion that the Blazers should move either, though I will say that if they HAD to move, St. Louis would be the only city I could live with (though I don't expect the same reacion from Portlanders).
Oil Can:
It's not apples to oranges because I was comparing rationale not cities. If the argument was that losing teams in the past makes you currently unsuitable for a team then I was merely trying to show that other cities have lost many more teams than St. Louis has. I picked L.A. mostly because they went from one of the leagues worst team to NFL Champions in 4 years after moving to St. Louis.
Another interesting note: St. Louis wasn't really considered a Football town when the Cardinals played (with most of the state focused on the Chiefs) and after the Owner of the Cards skipped town, many people thought that football wouldn't be successfull because of an over-saturated market from the baseball Cards and the Blues, but the Rams franchise was turned around very very quickly and now the Rams have become a solid fixture of St. Louis sports.

How Bizarre! I remember Ken Dayley.
He is from my home town of The Dalles, He is a few years older. I remember going and watching him play at Quentin Street Ballpark. He was on all of the great Whitey Herzog teams with Ozzie Smith in the 80's.
We idolized him when we were little leaguer's.
