Best Randolph trades
OK, so maybe Zach is dealt this summer to a team which can absorb his full salary or part of it with a return player to us
Zach can be dealt much easier in mid July when his BYC status is over and other teams clear slary room
Toronto, Chicago, Atlanta come to mind in mid July
some scenarios we have talked about are Zach to Chicago for the #2
Zach to Atlanta for the #5
Zach to Toronto for the #1, perhaps?
any others you all have talked about
filler more than likely required and / or up to $3 million in cash.....
what say you...
If we do want to deal him... we need offense in return....

Do we really need offense at the PF position if we have Martell, Telfair, and Morrison or Bargnani for that? And if we were to draft Aldridge, we wouldn't necessarily need offense coming back in trade either (unless that is the trade of course). I admit it would be nice to have offense from either the PF or Center position, but my top priority at PF (if we have other offensive players) would be defense, defensive rebounding, and setting screens. Zach seems to be a little deficient in those areas. And don't forget that HA is going to be an offensive monster (in a few years, maybe ).
Edit: Maybe I misunderstood. I agree that in order to trade Zach, we need to replace his offense, somewhere on the team. If we draft Gay, for example, it would be nice to get another outside shooter, like Bargnani maybe.

Re: Best Randolph trades
Toronto would have no interest in ZBo with Villanueva and Bosh already on their roster.

Re: Best Randolph trades
I agree with you BB.... I want a Buck Williams clone at PF... capable of making offense, but takes it for the team and performs rebounding nad defense first
I think Aldridge could do this at the 4 and 5 spots...
adding Bargnani/Morrison at the 3 to Telfair and Webster sure would be exciting to see...
my wish for the draft is Aldrige AND Morrison or Bargnani with an extreme dream of adding Reddick and Splitter

Yeah, but the problem is Chicago has to agree to it. I doubt we could trade Zach straight across for their pick, there's no way they add in Ben Gordon.

Re: Best Randolph trades
i really don't see why any team would seriously consider taking on Randolph AND giving up a top 5 draft pick. that's just crazy.
if we trade him, it'll be for someone equally unpalatable. Steve Francis or Kenyon Martin types.

Re: Best Randolph trades
Maybe the Bulls would take Randolph for the 16 if Portalnd really wants to unload him. I dont think the Blazers are gonna get a top 10 pick for him, due to his poor contract and advertised poor attitude.

Re: Best Randolph trades
Zach and Miles to NY for Rose and a 2007 first-round pick?
Zach and Blake to Atlanta for Childress and a 2007 first-round pick?
Zach to Chicago for Sweetney and a 2007 first-round pick?
(Obviously my theme for the day is to clear capspace and get extra picks in 2007)
Other, non-capspace clearing possibilities might include...
Zach to Golden State for Troy Murphy and Mikael Pietrus.
I dunno...

NY doesn't have their own 07 pick, not sure if they have anyone elses to trade.

I'd do this in a heartbeat. Not a huge Troy Murphy fan but he does rebound well and helps stretch the defense. I also like Pietrus a lot and think he is going to be at worst a very solid starter, he's just stuck behind Jrich (who is definitely better then him currently). Not real sure GS goes for it, though I don't think much of Mullin as a GM so maybe he would do it.

Re: Best Randolph trades
Given how low the opinion of Zach Randolph is around here (and this is supposed to be a Blazers fan board) it would seem to me that this may not be the best time to consider trading him. I'm in favor of dumping Darius, who I think is a bad influence on Zach, and seeing whether ZBo becomes more effective this year having had a summer off to let his knee complete healing. People need to remember that Amare Soudemire had the same surgery last summer and he didn't even play at all last season.
The Blazers have a pattern recently of making trades when players are at the lowest point in their value and then looking like chumps when the players make positive contributions to their new teams. It's time to change that practice. Give Zach a chance to be a 20 & 10 player again next season and then decide whether to keep him or trade him for another player.
