Re: Mike Rice's mock draft
It may not happen, but people better be prepared for it. Start printing the signs:
"Roy for ROY"

Yeah, I'm starting to become convinced. They either KNOW Roy's our guy or they're in absolute lockstep with what Steve Patterson wants them to say.
I'm not sure I want Roy, but he does have a chance to be the best rookie next year. That would be something.

Re: Mike Rice's mock draft
They (including Harvey) have been pumping up Roy as Nate's boy since before the lottery. Although I've yet to hear Nate actually say that himself.
I can think of two reasons why the Broadcasting guys would be unanimous in predicting Roy as our pick at no. 4, ahead of other players that they themselves at one time or another have indicated they like. The first would be that Nate really does want Roy and Nate has been promised they will draft whoever he wants, and these guys know that. The second is they are acting as management tools and purposely putting out a smoke screen that the Blazers covet Roy in order to facilitate some kind of trade -- although I haven't thought of a scenario in which that would actually accomplish anything.

It really would. I'm not sold on Roy as a guy with a high enough ceiling to be worth the 4th pick, but he IS a good player and I think he'll be a good pro. I'd prefer us to drop down a bit to take him, or to acquire a second lottery pick somehow, but I'm already making my peace with Roy at the 4 spot.

If Martell hadn't come on strong last year, I would be more interested. I just don't see how Roy fits with Martell, unless Nate changes his mind on Martell's true position. One could argue that down the road (several years) Martell could be a better SF than Morrison. So, if Morrison could be our SF of the future, why not Martell? I was just getting used to the idea of having a tall SG again--and liking it.

There's always the other possibility that the broadcasters know what mgmt. wants, and mgmt. wants Roy. Maybe Nate likes Roy, but doesn't want us to draft him... as you said...

The Web site article did. Either Rice or the editor can't spell.

Re: Mike Rice's mock draft
So...I have a couple of questions in case anyone knows.
Who all is going to post a mock draft on the Blazers site? Just the 4 broadcasters? Nate? Patterson? (j/k).
Are they going to repost updated mock drafts again, like after the June 15 workouts? Right before the draft?
It seems kind of fruitless to set opinions on players and team needs this far before the workouts. I mean, except when we do it.

Re: Mike Rice's mock draft
If the Blazers draft Roy with Morrison on the table, and Morrison ends up winning ROY (ironic, innit?), be prepared for another year (or more) of "Blazers should have drafted...." discussions.
Just sayin'...

Re: Mike Rice's mock draft
If the Blazers draft Roy, then they obviously think he is the best fit for the team. I wouldn't agree, but I'm tired of wasting precious energy on being upset about it.
Like Ed O. said, I'm already making my peace with Roy at the 4 spot. But lets hope this is all just a big smokescreen in hopes of landing a trade with a team that will give us the chance to draft Shelden Williams, and the chance to trade Darius Miles. That I wouldn't be opposed to.
I hear Boston is pretty high on Roy. If we can somehow pull something off to where we get Boston's pick, Ryan Gomes, or Tony Allen, and we trade our pick, and Darius Miles, then we will have a solid replacement for the SF position, plus "The Landlord" or whomever we have our eye on at that spot.
I'm not sure how that would work out salary wise, seeing as Boston already has a couple horrible contracts, and I'm too lazy to find out, but that would be one of the best case scenarios, IMO.
S. Williams could backup Zach for a year while we evaluate Zach's future with the team. Make a move next year according to who we want to keep. Maybe Zach pulls some **** next year. We'd able to bench him and start Williams.
Let's say Joel leaves. Williams could play some center for us next year. Even if Joel stays, Williams could play some "5."
Our defense improves, we lose a cancer.
It looks good to me.
Rabble, rabble!
