I guess that explains why the owner of the Angels changed their name to the LA Angels of Anaheim, huh?
and made a LOT more money because he did it...huh?
moving a team from LA to Anaheim would make a lot more sense than moving a team from Portland (or Seattle) would. This is just people making it known they're interested in a team, kind of like how San Antonio made a fool of itself with the Marlins...while Portland sat back and said "prepare for a denial, San Antonio"...and San Antonio kept thinking they were on the inside track..they kept getting the positive press, and were the "likely destination, if the Marlins moved"...they got cocky, and it blew up in their face. this is no different.
Vancouver, Anaheim, St Louis...they're just making noise to show that they're "there". Nothing more, nothing less

Re: The Anaheim Trail Blazers??
Just because this guy may have an interest in buying the Blazers does not necessarily mean that he plans to move the team to Anaheim. Larry Weinberg lived in LA and never tried to move the team there.
I think that if Vulcan were intent on letting the team be sold to be moved, they wouldn't have bothered working out the agreement with PAM. The franchise would be in bankruptcy and Paul Allen's attorneys would be working overtime to find a way to break the agreement with the City. While it may be fun to run around like Chicken Little yelling, "The sky is falling" every time one of these stories is written, I still think that by far the most likely outcome is that the Blazers remain in Portland.

Re: The Anaheim Trail Blazers??
not only that, the NBA would have a lot of 'splainin to do...it's doubtful that an owner coming in and moving the team is A: the best scenario and B: the only scenario and would have to be C: the LAST scenario.
so, wed basically have to have someone come in, buy the team after at least 2 (if not more) groups failed (not likely).......and then get approval to BUY the team..and then get approval to MOVE the team...and then pay off the city/state...which wouldn't be like a "oh hey, here's my figure...yuors is close. deal!" situation.
the city knows full well how much $$ it has invested in the team (by how much it takes back). they aren't going to bend over for 60 million dollars (which is basically like 5 years worth of $$). Anyone who thinks that is niave.
im sure the NBA is looking forward to having one of the older, more succesfull franchises move, because of the OWNER screwing things up. That'd open the door for other teams, who are about the same age (or in the kings case, younger in their city) to move because hey..if they let PORTLAND move..why the hell not us?

Re: The Anaheim Trail Blazers??
I disagree that a move of a franchise to Anahiem is a good idea. Yes, I noted that LA is a huge market, but it is already saturated with a catrillion teams. Add in the NFL return, and I don't see the long-term upside of a team there.
Portland, as small as it is, makes much more sense than LA.

He made that name change because he wanted L.A. city money to support his franchise and stadium.
Also as you note he attracted even more fans from surrounding L.A. by doing so as well.
I was simply noting that the L.A. tri-county has by far a large enough population to support another pro sports franchise.

I didn't say it was a good idea nor that it was a better option then Portland...I simply noted that the population of the L.A. is large enough to support a new NBA team plus all the existing sports franchises.
I adamantly agree that Portland it still a much better option.

just because the team COULD move, but is highly unlikely, don't be so surprised when people dismiss it.

Re: The Anaheim Trail Blazers??
lastly...
How hip do you think David Stern would be to a new franchise in LA taking away revenue from the other 2?

People = money....L.A. has alot of them. David Stern wouldn't likely care but I am sure the Lakers and the Clippers would raise a bit of a stink.

I don't think the Blazers are going anywhere. Definitely not to Anaheim.
