Why would we want Brevin Knight?

I like him to a certain extent, but damn...we're overloaded at PG already. The only thing I can think of is we may want to trade Miles to them. I guess Knight could always be moved somewhere else in another deal.

"Bickerstaff said he's spoken with the Toronto Raptors and Portland Trail Blazers, along with other teams he didn't identify, about various possibilities. The Raptors and Blazers could use a veteran point guard, although at 30 Knight would likely be more attracted to a contender."

I'm more worried about him being smaller than telfair, than him being older than dirt.

but maybe it's a "blake +outlaw + #4 for #3 + Knight + something"

i seriously doubt it.

Re: Why would we want Brevin Knight?

On second reading of this, I guess it doesn't really say that we've talked to Bickerstaff about Brevin Knight, but about 'possibilities.' Or maybe it's a three way deal where we trade with Toronto and Charlotte.

Re: Why would we want Brevin Knight?

Portland's love recent obsession with short, slight point guards.

Seriously, if one or two of the existing point guards were dealt, then Knight would be a nice back/vet to have. However, if Telfair and Jack both stay, I don't see any need for Knight.

Maybe Knight could sit on Telfair's shoulders and we'd end up with a 6'4" point guard that weighed over 200 lbs.

The only reason to take on a 4th point is if we are trading one of our current 3.

Re: Why would we want Brevin Knight?

We're obviously trying an experiment of seeing how important ball handling is by having a roster of 15 PGs.

Re: Why would we want Brevin Knight?

Bickerstaff may have asked if we were interested in Knight, but certainly the "talks" went no further than that. Anyone remotely close to the team knows we are leaning towards unloading a point guard, not aquiring one. This just goes to show how silly the rumor mill can be.

Re: Why would we want Brevin Knight?

Hmm, Gambitnut's idea is intriguing. Few turnovers, good free throw shooting, but defense and rebounding could be a problem. Of course, it already is.

Re: Why would we want Brevin Knight?

why wouldnt we want Knight? He's one of the best set up men in the league. That allows us to get rid of Blake and Jack/Telfair, then we can focus on either Jack/Telfair with Brevin Knight showing them the ropes

Think about Brevin Knight with a jumpshot, thats how Telfair or Jack could turn out under his tutoring

Re: Why would we want Brevin Knight?

Knight is a great "training wheels" floor general for a young lottery team still learning the ropes. Very quick, unselfish, better defensively than he should be, will get in the passing lanes. He even showed in Charlotte that he can score if necessary. Can't shoot a lick outside 18 feet though.

Re: Why would we want Brevin Knight?

Believe it or not, both Brevin Knight AND Steve Blake were on the Zards together during Blake's rookie season, post MJ era.

Blake out-performed Knight and took over the 2nd PG slot, behind Arenas. He even managed to start some games when Arenas was injured. That team also sported Kwame Brown and Jerry Stackhouse, and played a more wide-open type game that did not suite Knight very well.

Knight might be OK in a strict, half-court style of play. But, would get into trouble if the team adopts a more aggressive type of game. Also, Knight is not a good 3-pt shooter and is, of course, very undersized.

He is a good distributor, but not the kind of player that can hit the clutch shots. IMO.

Fortunately, then, Portland is rarely in a position where we need to have clutch shots hit. We're stuck with Nate in a strict, half-court style of play.

Looks like Knight would be a perfect fit.

Good memory and sums up Knight to a T.

And since when is a three year pro not a veteran? This vexes me.

That said, there isn't enough PT for the guards that are there until one of them goes (and you already know who I think it'll be and how I feel about it. >: )
