Boston Herald: Blowing Up the Pacers?
Wow
Item is halfway down the page.
If true, so much for trading up ... unless maybe something can be worked out with Indiana?
Quote:
The hottest rumor to break out of the draft camp in Orlando, Fla., had Indiana looking to break up the ship.
The Pacers reportedly have talked to Toronto about trading Jermaine O’Neal to the Raptors for some sort of package that would include the No. 1 pick. The Pacers, clearly looking to make a fresh start, would then take [Adam] Morrison.

Re: Boston Herald: Blowing Up the Pacers?
yeah i read that this morning. i'm not too sure about what i read though. sure i know that larry bird really likes morrison and has scouted him quite a few times during his career at gonzaga. and all this morrison/bird talk has the internet going nuts (sorry had to borrow a lil something from paul wall).
anyhow, with all the talk about peja opting out of his contract and then resigning with indiana and the jermaine-staying-in-indiana articles i've read, it makes no sense.
now i am not sure how early/late peja can opt out of his contract. but what if indeed this were to happen:
1. peja opts out say a week before the draft, with HIS intention to resign with indiana.
2. indiana pulls the said trade - jermaine and their pick for villanueva and the #1 pick.
3. indiana drafts adam morrison withthe #1 pick.
4. indiana pulls the other mentioned trade - jamaal tinsley for ricky davis.
5. with davis and morrison on board, there is no need for stephen jackson (and thus rids the pacers of yet another player involved in "the brawl"), so they ship him off anywhere they can, possibly for a pg. ps good luck with that trade, larry but somehow isiah thomas...
6. bird pulls the shadiest move of all time. when free agency period begins, he has no intention whatsoever to resign peja.
7. with their second round pick, they pick up a big man.
8. indiana resigns fred jones fairly cheap, no more than $5M a year. if he decides to leave, go right ahead. stephen jackson's replacement could play a backup role. and i hear penny hardaway is looking for a job.
all this has freed indiana of over $25M in capspace by screwing over peja and "dumping" oneal. they get a shorter but equally expensive contract in davis/tinsley. the stephen jackson one stumps me, still. but anyways, they get their building blocks of villanueva, morrison and granger.
jeff foster / 2nd round rookie / veteran center (dale davis?)
charlie villanueva / david harrison / austin croshere
danny granger / stephen jackson's replacement? / fred jones
adam morrison / ricky davis / fred jones
anthony johnson / saurunus jasikevicius /

In that situation Morrison would not start over Granger or Ricky Davis. At least not as a rookie.

Since when does Ricky Davis play for Indiana?

... since the Pacers would have traded Tinsley for Davis in deanwoof's scenario.

Journal Times - A Raptors official was adamant that the club wouldn’t surrender its No. 1 overall pick for Indiana forward Jermaine O’Neal.

Wonder what we could throw at Indiana for Jermaine?
