Sam Smith has a trade idea:
The top 5 trade scenarios for Chicago.
#4: Theo Ratliff and No. 4 for No. 2. Portland wants to move up and probably get a shot at Aldridge with the chance of losing Joel Przybilla. It's also time to dump Ratliff's salary. With No. 4, the Bulls probably could get a player they want, maybe even Brandon Roy, and then have some big-man insurance and maybe even make a deal for Tyson Chandler.

Re: Sam Smith has a trade idea:
Unfortunately, this trade makes sense given the state of things.
Portland moves a piece that is going to cost the team $23m over the next two years... which is about 1/15 of the value of the franchise and Rose Garden... and he's just not good enough to be worth it to a team this bad.
I don't value the 2nd pick that much more highly than the 4th, but getting out from under Theo's deal and getting to move up probably fills a pair of needs for the franchise.

Yeah, it makes sense if Aldridge is our guy.
Then again, he may be gone with the first pick. If he is, we're stuck with the distinct possibility of Ha as our only center under contract. Yikes.

Re: Sam Smith has a trade idea:
If Blazers don't resign Joel and they trade Theo, that leaves Skinner and ha for the center spots . . . ouch.

Re: Sam Smith has a trade idea:
I'd venture a safe bet that IF they did that trade, they wouldn't be trading for the chance to draft aldridge.
my guess is that there are 3 players on the team that joel grew tired of and wants to see what the team does to make himw ant to say.
trading darius and theo would probably make him lean towards resigning.
big C's aren't so much an issue anymore too. outside of shaq and yao, most are just big PF's.

Oh yeah, Skinner. I forgot about him. Not something I'm looking forward to.

Painting Theo and Darius with the same brush? That's a huge reach.

Re: Sam Smith has a trade idea:
I would like to think that Joel and his family is a good fit for Ptd and that would influnece him to stay and raise a family here. However, given Joel's potential health problems and his play the last two years v. his career, I think Joel has no real choice but to take the longest most lucrative contract.
With the Blazers for sale, it makes no sense for them to be the top bidder, so resigning Joel is a long shot.

considering joel basically said that he didn't like how certain players were egging on their injuries...and it's believed that the franchise (and the coach) thought that theo was milking his injuries...I dont think it's a huge reach.
post edit:
I put theo and darius on the same "plane" because they're probably easier to trade than zach is. not because I think they're the same level of whatever you call it.

Re: Sam Smith has a trade idea:
I like it. The best part of the deal: it uses up enough of Chicago's cap space so they can't make Joel more than a MLE offer.

Re: Sam Smith has a trade idea:
I like it. However, I don't see why Chicago would want Theo when you consider how big his contract is and the fact that they could probably just get Joel for even less money (perhaps).
Even if it left a huge hole at center, I'd still draft Adam Morrison and either add a center via free agency or a trade. Hell, even Skinner wouldn't be a bad option. He has more O than either Ratliff or Przybilla.
