OT: Roethlisberger in Serious Motorcycle Accident
The article says he's in serious, but stable condition after flying off his motorcycle and hitting his head on a car window without wearing a helmet.
ESPN.com
This is becoming more and more frequent, and on the heels of Randolph speeding it shows how lucky he is to not be hurt.

Visiting the Steelers' training camp last summer, Bradshaw remarked: "Ride it when you retire."
No kidding.
This is strange, the original report was that he DID have the helmet on. (That was early this morning though.) With a 9 inch gash on the back of his head, I doubt that's really likely though.

Re: OT: Roethlisberger in Serious Motorcycle Accident
I think I heard he actually didn't have a helmet on.
What an idiot, he wins the super bowl and thinks hes immortal then doesnt wear a helmet. With all the career ending injuries from motorcycles, they should put a clause in every players contracts so they cannot ride motorcycles.
I personally value my life too much to ride a motorcycle

Re: OT: Roethlisberger in Serious Motorcycle Accident
I would think that Pittsburgh is going to have to find someone for the upcoming season. I don't see how Big Ben can start the season with a broken jaw and messed up knees. This totally sucks for Pittsburgh as he was just starting to get going and now this? The guy was going into his third season and was looking very promising.
Bottom line, I hope that he is okay and I hope that Pittsburgh can find a replacement for him as I just don't see him coming back to soon with those injuries and if he does, he'll be a shell of what he was.

He's pretty damn lucky. A lot of people have cracked their stupid skulls riding motorcycles without helmets.

Re: OT: Roethlisberger in Serious Motorcycle Accident
Amazing how circumstances can change so quickly . . . I don't think it is an understatement to say he was an up and coming superstar. A young, charismatic athlete playing the highest profile position in the most popular US sport.
Tom Brady has reached superstar status (common household name among sports and non sports fans) and with one more superbowl, Ben was right there.
Now, one wonders if he will ever be able to play again. And on top of that, contracts in the NFL are not guarenteed.
My heart goes out to Big Ben . . .

Re: OT: Roethlisberger in Serious Motorcycle Accident
Terrible situation.
This is earily similar to Chicago's coveted PG accident just a couple of years ago.
I've actually heard that those performance bikes have a lifespan of less than 24 months on average.
The cruiser types (Harley, etc) tend to be much safer.
In addition to rider mistakes, most automobile drivers do NOT respect motorcyles (or anyone else for that matter). I mean, your supposed to stay 100 ft back from a motorcycle on high-speed roads, as they can stop much faster than a vehicle; but, how many times do you see people tail-gating the bikers?

What an idiot. No other way to sugarcoat it.

Re: OT: Roethlisberger in Serious Motorcycle Accident
motor cycles are bad my dad shattered his hip when a car pulled out in front of him he flew 40 feet and he now has screws and he has pain from it every day. They should cap players motor cycles at 50 mph.I agree with the clause thing where if u ride a motor cycle ur contract is null and noid.

Re: OT: Roethlisberger in Serious Motorcycle Accident
I saw an interview with him last year saying that he would never stop riding his bike and that he didn't feel the need to wear a helmet. I hope he is okay, but if he isn't, I hope Pittsburgh voids his contract.
