Hassan Adams: Ruben Patterson with a basketball IQ?
There were elements of Patterson's game that I really thought helped the Blazers. Prior to leaving he had one of the highest +/- ratings on the team, and provided a real spark, if only he had a higher basketball IQ and wasn't such a headcase.
There are a ton of similarities in Adams game, he's explosive, a great slasher with excellent control around the basket, a very good defender, an excellent rebounder for his size, and is just a ball of energy on the court. But he has no outside shot and at 6' 4" is considered undersized for his natural position SF, which is why he'll be available at 30 or 31. I really think the Blazers should consider him if we keep at least one of the late picks.
A nice clip on Hassan can be found here (he's #50):

Ruben Patterson is exactly the guy I've always projected Hassan Adams to be like. If he's there at 30, I'd love to get him.

Ruben was big and strong enough to bang w/ the big boys under the hoop. I don't think Hassan is going to be able to do that at 6-4.

Ruben Patterson
6-5, 223 lbs
Hassan Adams
6-4, 220 lbs, but he has a 6-9 wingspan
In terms of musculature they look pretty similar also, both are stocky and cut.

What was Ruben's wingspan? And can Hassan handle the ball well? I like him as a player and would love him to backup Martell at SG.

Re: Hassan Adams: Ruben Patterson with a basketball IQ?
The way Hassan played last year is a little less < than Ruben.
However, Hassan lost his best friend just before last season and was really in a 'funk' all year long. That's not the Hassan that you'll see next year. Still, unless he gets his Sophomore season jump shot back, he's gonna struggle offensively in the halfcourt game.
Sickening athlete, warrior attitude, and questions.

Yeah I noticed how his shooting % declined, which is generally a bad sign, you like to see steady improvement. However it's also one of the main reasons he'll be there at 30 or lower. If he'd come out after his Sophomore season he'd have gone in the lottery.
SEASON FG% FT% 3P%
2002-2003 .490 .787 .206
2003-2004 .542 .733 .384
2004-2005 .491 .714 .302
2005-2006 .478 .611 .262
However, I still like him. When you're picking in that range (30+) you're either taking a stiff, a very raw athlete, or a player with serious questions.

I looked for Ruben's wingspan couldn't find it. As far as his ball handling during the 3 Arizona games I watched this season it looked decent, sufficient to slash through traffic at least.

He could also be Ruben without the serial rapist.

Re: Hassan Adams: Ruben Patterson with a basketball IQ?
I think Hassan Adams is an intriguing player....His outside game needs a lot of work, but I think he could really help a team as a SG\SF off the bench...He finds ways to score, is tough and is a good rebounder and defender...

Re: Hassan Adams: Ruben Patterson with a basketball IQ?
I think drafting Adam at 4 and Hassan at 31 would be a great move. They compliment each other well, and getting a great shooter and a guy with the potential to be a shutdown defender would be fantastic. Then package Darius and 30 for a big.

Re: Hassan Adams: Ruben Patterson with a basketball IQ?
Being a UA grad I've seen him play a lot. He brings a lot of the same intensity and athletic ability as Ruben, but without the attitude. His mid range jumper is actually pretty good, especially in transition. Will never be a great shooter, but should be able to improve enough to keep defenses honest. Very emotional player (especially his first 3 years) and would develop into a fan favorite.
