Shoe on the other foot...
Flip the idea...Say the Blazers moved to OKC, and the Sonics moved to Portland. Would you follow the Sonics as the local team, if you did how soon?
I think if you took the fan base in Portland and did a little study you would find that for every Sonic fan you have 30 Blazers fans. The reverse could be said for the Seattle population.
Now factor this in. Reverse the scenario. Let's say the Blazers relocated to Anaheim. Then the sonics relocated to Portland. How many Blazers fans would start following the Sonics instead? So Let's stab you in the back by taking away the local team, then as you are arching to easy the pai n in the bakc let's kick you in the balls by giving you a rival to cheer for.
It's one thing to lose a team and get a token expanision team ala Charlotte, but to lose your team and have it's rival plunked in front of you as a replacement.....Not gonna work peeps.
Back to our Ratio 30:1...of say 15,000 fans maybe 500 would be happy, the other 14,500 would be angry....Especially season ticket holders. Wouldn't it be more financially sound to Keep the team in it's market and market to the other population? Take the current Blazers fan base and use local Seattle kids like Martell and Brandon to cause Seattlites to tune in to Portland games?

Re: Shoe on the other foot...
Tough question... but after a few years, I'd honestly say I'd root for the local team (Portland Sonics for example) if my Trail Blazers left.

So how would attendance figure? Season ticket holders? How Many Season ticket holders would switch their allegience from the Blazers to the Sonics?

If they like the NBA, they wouldnt have much of a choice. They could follow the Trail Blazers and move, or buy tix for the new team.

Re: Shoe on the other foot...
I've been a Portland Trail Blazers fan since around 1974, invested a lot of time and energy being a fan of this team. If they were to move - I wouldn't be happy with the owner - but couldn't blame the players. I'd just buck-up, get NBA Pass, and continue to follow my Los Angeles Trail Blazers of Anaheim!!!
PS I've also been a Fins fan since 1971. So I know I can do it. It just takes more work to enjoy it.

I'd still be a Trail Blazer fan... but it's just not the same following a team that isnt local. Being able to actually attend the games on a regular basis makes a huge difference for me.

Re: Shoe on the other foot...
Whatever team is in Portland I would root for. Although for me now being a Houstonian...or more technically a Sugar Landian I would probably lose a lot of interest in my "hometown" team if it weren't the Blazers. If the team got a deal like Cleveland where they kept the colors and name and somehow the records that would be different. I hope I never have to hear about some player breaking Clydes record with the then Portland Trailblazers now any city USA

Re: Shoe on the other foot...
I'm a Portland fan first, I would route for the new team representing the city.
Just to have fun with this, who would route for Portland if it were . . . the Portland Lakers?

If the Blazers move, I'll save about a thousand hours a year by not watching games, listening to CSMN, reading magazine and newspaper articles and reading forums like this one.
Stay Blazers

If he brought a championship to Ptd?
Maybe Kobe and Bonds could come to your Bend house for vacation.

Re: Shoe on the other foot...
I keep thinking that really as much as we hate it...Portland and Seattle are a shared Sports Market, by circumstance and by population. The Population and interest simply doesn't exist to house 2 NBA, 2 MLB, 2 NFL etc etc...It's been reported that the Mariners draw about 10% of their yearly attendance from Portland. Seahawks are probably similar.....
Now fast Forward, Sonics depart for OKC. All of a sudden the NBA has 1 team and 2 similar markets, that are already splitting air time for sports. 55% of that Market is ticked that they just lost their franchise. Would it make sense to then step forward and Alienate the other 45%?
Why distress 2 markets when you can distress just one and hope that the one uses the other like a crutch?
