As far as *I* am concerned he's a SG. He has the mentality to score the most points on the team...I didn't watch the sixers much last year so I don't really know how he is doing as a "point"

My problem with combo guards if they do play both positions at different times, then their offensive mindset is a bit confused.....do they distribute or are they supposed to handle the ball and shoot to their wit's end.

So then they become "ballhog" pointguards.

What do you think about guys who swing between other positions? I'm guessing it's a smaller deal to you than a 1/2, such as a Drexler swinging 2/3 or a Skinner swinging 4/5, but I'd be interested to hear your take.

The 2/3 spot isn't a primary concern as far as positions go. I think that position is a bit MORE interchangeable than the 1/2 or 4/5.

The Point Guard is the one who's going to control the tempo of the offense. Can't do that with a shoot-first mentality, which is what shooting guards do.

4/5 PF/C's? Generally i don't like them. I like the center in the middle or the high post while the PF can be around in different parts of the lower post.....I mean.....again.....what are some GREAT combo players at the PG/SG position or the PF/C position......

What ends up happening is you have a:

point guard that shoots too much
an undersized shooting guard

or

an undersized center
uncoordinated or not mobile enough PF

Tim Duncan is the first name to come to mind when I think "great combo player" at the FC position. Kevin Garnett and Dwight Howard are pretty good too. Guys like Rasheed Wallace and Bosh do ok also. Then there's Kwame Brown ... ok, not Kwame, but there are plenty of good players who regularly alternate the 4 and 5 spots.

I can't think of any good ones at the 1-2 though, offhand. I really don't understand why so many people expect to see Roy at the point. Maybe Phil Jackson would put him there, but for most teams he is a true SG, and for us that's where he will play.

Re: Roy will be our PG before the end of the year.

The only player that I can think of is Joe Johnson and maybe pre-injury Bob Sura. I think that players have a hard time adjusting to play the PG position such as Marquis Daniels or Ben Gordon who has a shooters mentality. But I believe the best position to play Roy would be at the 2 and maybe placing Webster at the 3.

Even if Jack really isn't going to be ready, I think I'd rather see Blake or even Dickau at the point, rather than ask Roy to learn the position and then move over -- I'm thinking about the experiments with guys like Miles and Woods at the point. I realize that Roy is almost certain to have more success there than that but I'd still be inclined to make the transition as easy as possible for him and it's not as if Jack is clearly head and shoulders above Blake and Dickau at this point (though I certainly hope he will be soon).
I don’t think he is good enough. He is not a better player then Dixon right now. If Dixon could play PG on defense and SG on offence he would be much better then he was last year.
From what I have seen of Roy living in Seattle he just plays. He doesn’t really have a set style. I was not that high on him at the 4th pick but I happy with where we got him. He wont have to learn a new position playing the 1 or 2. McMillan wants to play a dual PG style regardless and unlike a lot of big PGs Roy can make the tough passes. Over time I think Jack will earn a start and Roy can move to the 2 without missing a beat.

Roy was a more comfortable and assertive player when Nate left UW and he could control the ball more. If Jack is going to play with Roy Jack is the one that will have to adjust. He needs to learn how to play without the ball. That’s something many many many many pure PGs suck at. John Stockton should hold a clinic on that. Dixon, Webster and Roy can play without the ball. You put a star player next to them and the Blazers wont worry about offence. Dixon is not a ball hog he is an undersized shooter.

Kirk Heinrich... Gilbert Arenas... Joe Dumars... heck even TPorter did some good things at the 2 but of course he was a SF in college.

How are you coming to the conclusion Jack isn't as good as Dixon? Are you basing it off his rookie season where he was playing with an ankle at about 65% and two other PG's fighting for minutes? If that's the case, you don't know Jack (no pun intended).

I'll admit that I'm bias because of I dislike Dixon a whole heck of a lot, but that guy couldn't even defend most PG's. He certainly isn't good enough on offense to plan around him on defense like that.
