From: Today's Article
Hmmmm.......perhaps, as part of the Mags deal, there's already some activity in that regard?

What does a Randolph/LaFrentz or Randoph/Miles deal look like? Anybody?

Re: Canzano Sez Go After AI....
Canzano would have a field day all season with AI here. By comparison, Sheed's coverage would be nothing.
Still, on a roster analysis, if we gave up Zach, Miles and a #1 pick (which would I think get the trade done), we'd be left with:
Allen Iverson/Jarret Jack
Brandon Roy/Dixon
Webster/Outlaw
Magloire/Aldridge
Pryzbilla/Raef
This makes the playoffs, but I don't think it's good enough to make much noise- we'd be weak at the 3 & 4 spots, with the 2 possibly also being weak.
We'd have to be able to sign someone decent with the mid-level exception to make this work.

Re: Canzano Sez Go After AI....
I don't see the Sixers taking Miles as long as Mo Cheeks is head coach. I think a more likely trade would be Zach, Dixon, and a pick for Iverson. That would give the Blazers a pretty formidable lineup, but the potential for some serious issues with Iverson and Miles on the roster would make it a pretty big risk.

Re: Canzano Sez Go After AI....
It's idiodic. AI a Blazer? Posse, Tattoos, and HipHop....yeah he'd fit right in.
If making the playoffs is your only goal - then it makes great sense. I have loftier goals for my team.

Re: Canzano Sez Go After AI....
talent wise it's a great mover for Portland, but image wise it takes the Blazers two steps backwards on what they have done this summer.

Re: Canzano Sez Go After AI....
First of all, the image is secondary to what's happening on the floor. Bring in AI, and ticket sales skyrocket. Simple as that.
Second, AI isn't going to happen without the team mortgaging its future. And we've all heard how committed Pritchard and Patterson are to the core.
It's a nice thought, but AI won't be in a Portland uniform this season. The team just doesn't have that many assets they're willing or able to part with right now.

Re: Canzano Sez Go After AI....
Nevermind the image issues.
I think it would be a great bold move to make if Iverson had a history of making players around him better - like Steve Nash. But the problem is that he has more of a history of dominating the ball and keeping teammates out of the flow of the ballgame. If he continued to play that way, it would hinder the development of our young talent.
For that reason alone, I don't like the move and would rather run with what we have unless something else good comes along.

Re: Canzano Sez Go After AI....
I think you guys need to put more stock in the image issues. POrtland is just now recovering from their horrible image of 4 or so years ago. AI is a great player, but I don't think he's a good fit in the Portland community.

I think it's definitely a big deal. But it should be secondary to what happens on the court.
However, since I don't think it would work out on the court as it is, it seems doubly pointless to deal with that headache.

Re: Canzano Sez Go After AI....
I would trade for ai only if we get to keep zach , we would prolly have to give up young pieces though.

Re: Canzano Sez Go After AI....
I would be all for getting Iverson irrespective of what he looked like or how he was perceived if I thought it would make the team appreciably better.
But simply throwing Iverson into the current mix of players is not going to result in a team that's poised to do much other than make the playoffs. By the time our young core is good enough to support an Iverson-type player on a championship run, he's going to be out of his prime.
Plus, he's little and he shoots a tremendous amount with a crappy percentage. I don't like the way he plays and I'd prefer him to remain on any other team than the Blazers.
