If Portland had a 65-win team, the fans would come out in droves.

No doubt. If Portland had a 55 win team, I think the fans would be back.

So if the team wins games with a score of 65-60 and misses the playoffs by a few games you think more people will come out to watch that than if they won games 105-100 and missed by the same margin?
I wasn't saying they would win 60-65 games,I was saying that's what our scores will be. Basketball is an entertainment. People want to go and be entertained. Winning is awesome, and a cure all, but I can't help but think of the Knicks in the 90's under Riley.

I think he meant win by a score of 65 to 60 - NOT win 65 games...

10 ppg on 47% is part of the story. Here is another part. Offensive Tendex score last season:
Jamaal: 10.16, good for 16th in the NBA........... for Centers. Behind offensive juggernauts like Ben Wallace.
His per 48 Offensive Tendex, isn't even in the Top 20 among NBA centers. Defensive specialists like Eric Dampier, Jeff Foster, Brendan Haywood, Tyson Chandler, Kwame Brown and Joel Pryzbilla are in the Top 20. Imagine that.
http://www.dougstats.com/05-06OffensiveTendex.html
Why?
47% is not actually a top notch shooting percentage for a player not allowed to shoot outside of the paint.
Free throws. He didn't draw them well (lowest of career since rookie season) and didn't make the ones he got (lowest shooting percentage for career).
Offensive Rebounds: lowest in last 4 seasons.
Assists: lowest in last 4 seasons.
The good news. Blocks are steady. Turnovers are in line with touches and career numbers. Defensive rebounding is outstanding. His total rebounding rate was 6th in the NBA.
All we need to do is find a way to get him back to a more effective and more consistent offensive place and we could have a productive and happy Center - on both ends of the floor.

Im suprised the raps didn't want him too, he could have been packaged with TJ Ford easily. This makes the Blazers a better team, I don't know how, but adding a player like Magloire is a good step and makes them better right away. Hopefully he can show Aldridge the ropes.

Everyone is way too thrilled about this guy. Seriously, what is the difference between him and Dale Davis? They were both good rebounders, and efficient yet low-output scorers. In fact, Davis probably had more offensive game than Magilore.

First of all: what was wrong with Dale Davis at age 28? Nothing that I can think of. He was an important player on a pretty competitive Pacers squad. Jamaal had better stats than Davis did in 97-98, but they were pretty close.
Unlike Davis, though, who played the 4 his entire career other than his Portland stop, Jamaal has been a center throughout college and the NBA. He's bigger and bulkier than Davis, and plays a more important position.

Exactly! Magloire is an offensive and rebounding upgrade over the defensive presense of Pryzbilla, who will be more valuable to the team if his minutes can be slightly reduced anyway.

Magloire for a late first round pick to a team that needs a C
Miles for a late first round pick for a team that needs a slasher
two 07 first rounders a few 2nd rounders and an unprotected 08 pick for an 07 lotto.
Two 07 lotto picks
Blazers rebuilt

I think getting that much for Miles' might be hard. He might be great on a team like the Spurs, though teams like that generally don't have a lot of late first round picks laying about. Still, it's an intriguing idea. Dixon's likely got some value, in terms of production vs. price tag. Sending Dixon and Miles out together might work well, though I'd be hesitant to part with them both without getting some sort of help back at a swing position. For that matter, there may well be teams with interest in trying to get something useful from Outlaw.
Regardless, if the Blazers can manage one more draft like this last one, they may well be set for a decade.

Looking back through the tendex numbers, he seems to have usually been a top 10 in both offense and defense.
I'll be pretty happy if he returns to that level. He's a much better free throw shooter than he's shown recently, also.

Re: It's OFFICIAL: Welcome to Portland Magloire (Merged)
Nothing is 'wrong' with Davis. But he was just a role player who made it to the all-star game due to the incredibly weak talent in the East. When he first came here he grabbed a lot of boards and put up about 10 points per game, but wasn't really an impact playe | |
