We'll see, Magloire has had a lot more success in the league than Joel has at this point. Maybe Joel can beat him out in training camp, but I think he's the underdog if you look at the last few seasons of NBA basketball.

Good teams need TWO centers that are worth a damn on the court. If there is any way to keep Jamaal for a fair contract, we should do so - and KEEP Joel. Unless, of course, we beat the odds and win the Oden lotto.

Actually, the last two seasons, Joel has been the more prodcutive player (by a fair percentage), per minute played.
Jamaal has been able to play more minutes on average, boosting his per game numbers. Jamaal has had the better "best" season, and thus, if he can find that form again, would be able to beat out Joel.
I think going into camp, who starts will depend on health (is either one dinged up), which player seems to fit better with the other starters, if they have a plan to showcase Jamaal, etc.

True, I guess I was thinking of Aldridge as a potential center who would be better than Przybilla - but only if given some court time to develop.
However, if Aldridge turns out to be more of a power forward AND we don't get Oden, it would make sense to hold onto both centers.

Certainly, that's something to look at.
But sometimes a player gets more minutes because they are more valuable on the court, or are simply better at staying out of foul trouble if we're talking about big men.
I was just about to try and support my argument with +/- numbers, but I just looked them up and Joel's are a lot better than Magloire's for last season. Magloire had a -2.4 on court/off court value, and Przybilla had a +2.1.
They both had not so great PER ratings according to NBA.com - Joel with 12, and Jamaal with 12.8.

I hear your logic there, BR, but I still wouldn't do it. I just don't think the Blazers can afford to betray the trust that Joel has shown them, largely because of what that says to the rest of the league. And, this team very much needs guys who want to be here because they've bought into the plans to get the team back on track.
I realize that, on some level, it does eventually boil down to being a business. And, it's relationships like what the Blazers have with Joel that can do wonders for bringing in the non-business aspects of things... those intangibles like chemistry, heart, etc. I know it sounds fluffy but I think there's something to it -- particularly for a team that's as bad as this team certainly still is.

Yeah I was kinda thinking that myself, but by the same token if he had extremely negative thoughts about the trade we likely would've heard about it by now also. It is somewhat surprising to have not heard anything from him yet.
