I think the talks were about Dixon, though, not Blake. They weren't talking about or working on a deal with Blake in it until recently.

In this case, I don't think there's anything wrong with the way the Blazers acted. It's the price of making large amounts of money playing basketball for a living. Pritchard et. al. shouldn't be responsible for keeping the players informed of GM activity. If they were, they'd have a much harder time getting anything done.

I doubt the Bucks even mentioned Blake's name until after the Ford trade . . . which occured after the draft if I remember correctly.

Re: I'd be surprised if Blake returns

I was told that the original deal involved Miles instead of Blake and Ha... but the Bucks changed their minds and said that it has to be Blake or they will go with another offer they had on the table from another team.

This is on absolutely great authority. The Blazers wanted to keep Blake badly, and he was told that. this is why I think he'll return if the numbers are close.

Thanks for the info - I really wish it could have been a Miles deal.

Re: I'd be surprised if Blake returns

Magloire is the prototypical rent-a-player, and they do have value in IMO. I don't know if anyone else follows baseball (the trade deadline was yesterday) but there is always teams that are looking to make a run that will trade away prospects for a proven, quality player that will help them in the short term.

Center is by far the hardest position to find a quality player, and Magloire is a very tradable asset as he could be used by a team to make a run in the playoffs. Ideally, there would be a team like SA or Detroit that has a lotto pick (acquired from someone else) that they would send to us for the use of Magloire.

Anyways, I "feel" empathically for Steve Blake because it seems that he is a solid guy, stand-up citizen and did everything right...but it is a business and sometimes things happen that aren't expected. I'm sure he'll do well in Milwaulkie or where ever he ends up, but S#!t happens. ya know.

Re: I'd be surprised if Blake returns

I like the fact that Blake played his heart out for us and hope he returns some day, but I don't think he's good enough to be the starter on a really good team.

At least, not yet.

Jack was always my favorite at the point.
