Jamaal as your starting PF?
I wonder if Jamaal would be a choice as a starting PF for us. This allows us to deal Miles with Zach. This keeps both Jamaal and Joel happy. Remember Jamaal was an all-star. Zach has not been one yet.
A popular NY trade idea... with a bit of a new twist... Keep the all-star Magloire and deal Zach to give NY incentive to deal Rose and his expiring contract...
Zach, Miles and Dickau for Jalen + Lee
PG Jack, Rodriquez, (Roy)
SG Roy, Webster, Dixon
SF Rose, (Webster), Outlaw
PF Magloire, Aldridge, Lee
C Przybilla, (Aldridge), LeFrentz
Do you see Jamaal as a starting PF for us?

Re: Jamaal as your starting PF?
You left Lamarcus Aldridge off your depth chart... Where does he get minutes?

Re: Jamaal as your starting PF?
First off, Jamal was only an all-star because he was playing center in a centerless Eastern Conference. If he was playing power forward he would not have made the team because of Jermaine O'neal and Kenyon Martin. Jamal could possibly be an all-star again at center because of how weak the center position is in today's NBA. But he'd never make it as a Power Forward.
Playing Jamal as a power forward is an option. And there will be times that we have him on the floor with Joel. But remember this. Zach Randolph is our best player. The second best player isn't close. You don't dump a guy like Zach Randolph so a guy like Jamal can play power forward. That's just crazy talk.

Re: Jamaal as your starting PF?
We get a lot worse in the deal, but it does trim the hell out of the cap and secures us back into the Oden sweepstakes.
If you're going to give up that much talent for expiring contracts, I would hope you're getting more than just David Lee - maybe Frye, Nate Robinson, Ariza or some first rounders IN ADDITION. I mean, it's Isiah Thomas we're talking about - there's no excuse to get fleeced.
The biggest problem is if you don't get Oden and Jamaal leaves for nothing, you might be pretty weak up front - especially in terms of scoring.
Ultimately, I don't like it though because unless we luck into Oden, I think it sets us back another couple of years. I have no confidence that we'll be able to pick up a top free agent even if we are significantly under the cap.
You forgot about Aldridge in your lineups, btw.

Re: Jamaal as your starting PF?
IMO, no way Jamaal starts over Zach. We need offense, and Zach gives us that. Zach has been working hard, he'll be rewarded with the starting job. But I'm sure Nate will let him know that if he slips up, Jamaal is waiting to take it.

Re: Jamaal as your starting PF?
you know, that's really not such a bad deal. between Lee and Aldridge, one of them is probably going to be at least as good as Randolph in a couple of years anyway. and it likely gets us a top 4 pick in a supposedly fantastic draft year, so even if we don't get Oden we'll come out all right.
we'd be sacrificing 10-15 wins to:
a) get rid of every bad contract on the team except for Raef
b) get a shot at oden
c) get Lee
hopefully, Magloire re-signs with us, or we do a sign-and-trade in another deal because we decide that Aldridge or Lee is a lot more ready to play right now than most people think.

Re: Jamaal as your starting PF?
What would this bring our payroll down to next offseason (without Magloire)?
Would there be any other Blazer free-agents that we would need to be picking up next offseason?

Re: Jamaal as your starting PF?
No friggen way. Zach is better then Everyone else mentioned in this thread by a fair amount. The only player who may turn out equal or better then Randolph is LaMarcus. I am sick of seeing the Blazers lose. The Blazers are not going to be good this year, but at least they will win a few more then last year. With the proposed trade, I would be surprised if the Blazers won 20 games. Lee is not good.

Re: Jamaal as your starting PF?
Magloire would be out of position at the 4, and the team would be much worse for the foreseeable future. Saving Paul Allen some money isn't a good enough reason to make a trade, IMO.

No way. Zach is a quality player (overpaid yes) in the league and has value. A salary dump of Zach makes no sense and would devastate this team.
I think the following would work: Zach + 07 and 09 picks to NJ for Richard Jefferson. You could swap the 09 pick for Webster and it would also work.

That's even worse than the original trade. Jefferson is way overrated and swapping Webster along with Zach and a pick is just silly.

Re: Jamaal as your starting PF?
Jamaal could only start at PF for a high scoring team, that just needs a brute rebounder at PF. But replacing Zach with Jamal at PF would make us the worst scoring team in history. Neither Jamal nor Joel have offensive skill beyond dunking.
