But considering there are going up to 4-5 superstar prospects, is that really such a bad bet? 25% chance at the next possible Hall of Fame center, 75% chance at a superstar prospect playing a different position.

Re: Sacrificing Wins for Oden
It is not worth tanking the season. We need to teach the young guys that playing hard is the only way to play, and that would be impossible if we were intentionally throwing games. Oden may become a great player, but he is nowhere near as sure-a-thing as LeBron or Yao. If we miss out on Yao, we have a chance to pick from a number of players that all play the same position we need to improve the most, small forward. Kevin Durant, Thaddeus Young, Brandan Wright(tweener), Julian Wright, Bill Walker and Yi Jianlian(tweener). Or we can go big and take Noah, Thabeet, McRoberts or Hawes. All 10 players mentioned, not including Oden, are top 5 talent in most drafts.

Re: Sacrificing Wins for Oden
IMO there is never a reason to hope for losses. There are posters on this board that yelled TANK IT! last year the day they couldn't make the playoffs. No prospect is worth one losing effort. It takes character in every player to make a winning team. The same kind of character would not consider tanking games or seasons. And no matter how talented or gifted any prospect is, if they don't have the winner's state of mind they won't amount to a pile of ****.

Trust me, the squad that's there right now won't have to try to lose games to get the #1 pick.

Re: Sacrificing Wins for Oden
It's not about trying to lose, it's about not trying hard enough to win.

Re: Sacrificing Wins for Oden
The Blazers will need to scrap every night and will still be a probable lottery team-so no use trying to tank it. Play to win, improve the great young talent already on board.

Re: Sacrificing Wins for Oden
You always play to win, but I think you should also play to win in the long run as well. That's why I keep screaming about playing the young guys. If they win then that's fabulous, but if they lose at least they are getting experience. Playing Blake, Dixon, Miles, Lenard and such over the players of our future and still losing was what was so bad about last year. If benching Jack, Roy, Aldridge and Webster let's us get into championship contention then do it. if not play the young guys because winning a championship is all that matters.

Everyone is high right now (and I am one of them) but if we start loseing big time the ownership thing gets messy and the fan base begins to disappear. This team needs to win. Just my 2 cents worth.

Exactly, if we do the worst in the NBA again, the fans will leave (the majority of them) and Paul Allen will lose money again and that crap will get all messed up, we need to win! If we lose the season just to get Oden, who knows, he could maybe even get injured, I don't know, he isnt guranteed to dominate, if we did that, the Portland Trail Blazers might not even be Portland anymore. And I would die if that happened.
