Sacrificing Wins for Oden
I've seen a lot of people here mentioning going for Oden in the last few months. I really don't see any point in tanking the season, even if it means playing our young guys a lot and getting them experience, just for a 25% chance at Oden (that's 75% chance of NOT getting Oden). I just want to get a better guage on how many people here think it'd be better to lose a lot in order to get Oden, rather than trying to win (which I think we can do while playing some of our younger guys).

Re: Sacrificing Wins for Oden
I don't think you tank...If they simply stay the course and commit to the young guys they have clearly decided to go with, then we are going to be in the Oden race. The fact of the matter is unless they can trade for a legit superstar...not and All-Start, a Super Start, then I doubt we are out of the race. As we've seen the last 2 Lotteries the top 5 are all very much in play for the #1 overall.
This upcoming draft even if you aren't #1, the next 4 are very very good too.

Re: Sacrificing Wins for Oden
Like Schilly pointed out, there are other good players in this comming year's draft outside of Oden. If we can land a high profile small forward like Young or Durant, then you go for them. Even if we have to trade up a bit to do so.

I agree completely. I just see people posting "if we do this, we'll be a poor team, and we can get Oden," and that just hadn't made a lot of sense to me.

Why in the hell would you tank a season just to get a 1 in 4 chance of drafting some high school kid who may or may not turn out?

Re: Sacrificing Wins for Oden
I think we need to win every game we can and the Oden sweepstaks be hanged. Or there may not be much of a fan base left.
Everyone is high right now (and I am one of them) but if we start loseing big time the ownership thing gets messy and the fan base begins to disappear. This team needs to win. Just my 2 cents worth.

Re: Sacrificing Wins for Oden
This year I was dejected to learn we had dropped down to the 4th pick but that turned out alright.
There is also the chance that Oden does not come out of school this year or early at all. Also, as widely stated next years draft class is STACKED, so picking 5th would not be the worst thing that ever happened.

Re: Sacrificing Wins for Oden
Although I want the team to play for wins every night, going for the likes of Oden or the other 4 potential picks is the real goal.
IMO this team needs another piece - a big man piece. It's probably our last chance at drafting a really good, high-level player before we win enough games to be out of the lottery.
I want us to finish in the bottom 4 - but play our butts off doing so.
Our young nucleus of Jack, Roy, Webster, and Aldridge are impressive and will one day be winners. Adding one more player; like Oden, Noah, Durant, even Hawes - we'd be stacked to build our great team by trading a few of them and acquiring the pieces we need.
San Antonio is built like this as well. Duncan, the big star, with Parker and Ginobili as the second fiddles. Roy and Webster are our second fiddles. Who will be our star??
