But "sources" say they will. And sources are never ever wrong are they?
Wiretap
And then again the other sources say...
"The Knicks made Jeffries a five-year, $30 million offer that the Wizards have until Monday to match. Several sources familiar with the Wizards' thinking believe that they are leaning against matching the offer due to luxury tax concerns. Matching the Knicks offer would put the Wizards over the luxury tax threshold."

Man, I really hope Washington matches. If they let Jefferies go, we might never find a Miles taker.

Maybe Isiah would still do it - he's crazy like that.
Just sweeten the pot with 3 2nd round picks or something. Throw in a couple million dollars.

Re: Miles on Isiah's radar
For the reasons already stated several times, I like this deal.
I dont think Richardson's back problems are any more of a risk/concern than Darius's knee issues.
From the story that Samuel posted:
Quote:
|
Even on nights when his shot is not falling, Richardson has remained aggressive and confident. ''If we win, I don't care if I score negative points,'' Richardson said.
|
Ya gotta love that attitude.

Bad news. I doubt Washington will now match the Knicks offer for JJ. If they did, wouldnt that put them in "luxury tax" land?

DeShawn Stevenson: Signs with Wizards
RotoWire.com Staff - RotoWire.com
Friday, August 4, 2006
Update: Stevenson agreed to terms with the Wizards on Thursday, ESPN.com reports.
According to Stevenson's agent, Mark Bartelstein, the shooting guard signed a two-year deal worth the NBA minimum for a player with six-plus years of service ($932,015 for the first year). Stevenson holds a player option for the second year of the contract. Stevenson, who was with Orlando last season, opted out of a contract that would have paid him $3 million this season while looking for a bigger payday that never came. "There just isn't much money left out there," Bartelstein said. "This gives DeShawn an excellent opportunity to play significant minutes on a very good team. I think by next summer, the rest of the league will see his real value and he'll earn back the money he lost."

Interesting. I didn't know Stevenson could play the 3.

Re: Miles on Isiah's radar
Dang, that's too bad. QRich is actually one of the more appealing names I've heard floated in a possible DMiles trade.
I guess we can just hope Isiah is stupid/crazy enough to want to do it anyways.

Re: Miles on Isiah's radar
The team will find a taker for Miles! It might not be tomorrow, but there is always going to be a GM out there who will take a risk on potential -- look at how many chances J.R. Rider got in the NBA. Granted, Darius has a bigger contract, but some GM will see it as worth the risk.
This isn't the last deal that will be proposed for Darius, and Portland will get something done sooner or later.

Re: Miles on Isiah's radar
The Knicks would be a whole lot smarter to sign Jeffries and forget all about Darius Miles. Keep Q-Rich in their stable of swingmen, instead.
The last thing Isiah needs is another head case. Who was it that said D-Miles would get along well with Steve Francis and Stephon Marbury? My God, that's a lockerroom from absolute hell. Marbury and Francis are both on-the-ball point guards, and Miles thinks he's a point-forward. And all three of them think they're a lot better than they are. Recipe for disaster, if you ask me.
I don't know who the Blazers will find to take Miles, but if it's the Knicks, then Thomas will not be long for New York (maybe I shouldnt' care...).

The only problem with that is that it's not up to New York at this point. Washington has the option to match the offer to retain Jeffries. Signing him and keeping Richardson is their main plan.

Right - I probably should have phrased that differently.
My understanding is that the Wizards will likely pass on re-signing Jeffries, and they'll let the Knicks overpay him. From where I sit, that's a much better outcome for the Knicks, even if they're paying JJ more than he's worth.
Regardless of the Jeffries' outcome, I would advise the Knicks to stay away from Miles because of the ridiculous ego/cancer problem that his presence would create.
However, he might find a good home in Washington - if they suddenly find themselves down a small forward. Miles in a lineup of solid team guys - Arenas, Jamison, Eton Thomas, etc. - could be a good place for him. And the Wizards maybe could use a guy capable of defending and occasionally lighting up the scoreboard. Talent-wise, he's an upgrade over Jeffries, though only if he can keep his head screwed on right.

I disagree. It's the fans who want Miles to be a point-forward because he has some of the skills, but he actually plays much more as a running/slashing forward (without a | |
