Re: Jack starting @ PG - what you wanted?
Assuming that Jack is healthy, I like it. Jack was severely underrated considering we got with a pick in the 20s...when many people thought the Lakers would draft him with the 10th pick (instead of Andrew Bynum). Anyways, Jack has a history of proving himself and playing against top-notch PG talent...he held his own against Paul and Raymond Felton many times in the ACC regular season.
I also like the fact that his is a big and physical PG...but the thing that is ignored the most is his personality. He is extremely charismatic and is friends with just about everyone he meets. I read an article that said his phone is filled up with more than 400 numbers and he regularly keeps in touch with everyone. He is one of those "clubhouse" or "chemistry" guys who is also the leader of hte team and plays in a very controlled manner.
Anyways, I'm very happy that we're are where we're at. Can anyone honestly argue that Roy for Telfair was a bad decision? Roy seems to be showing that last season was not a fluke and I'm very optimistic right now.

Jacks solid. He certainly don't have the shooting touch that TP had but he might improve on that. He does remind me some of TP but porobably closer to Greg Anthony.

Re: Jack starting @ PG - what you wanted?
What I like about Jack over Blake and Telfair is his D. I loved how Blake ran the team and controlled the tempo of games but his D was awful, not due to a lack of effort but a lack of talent. And we all know about Telfairs short-comings on D. Jack at times last year totally frustrated some of the better PG's in the league including a memorable stretch against Billups in the second half of our game at Detroit. At 100% Im looking forward to seeing how much he can improve.

Re: Jack starting @ PG - what you wanted?
I was a Telfair supporter, too, but I didn't feel that bad when he was traded. I think in my heart I knew Telfair had some serious limitations, despite the fact that I desperately wanted him to succeed. Now that he's a Celtic, I don't have to worry about him anymore. I think we're in good hands with Jack. At least when he shoots you feel it has a pretty good chance of going in.

the next Terry Porter? I doubt it. odds are he'll probably resemble a more physical, poorer shooting version of Derek Fisher. or maybe Andre Miller with better defense and worse pasing. of the three PG's, he was the best fit for this team though.
he did finish out the season on a high note, but people have to remember that he had more than 7 assists only three times last season. he's probably not going to be a great setup man, at least this coming year.
Roy looks to be the perfect compliment to Jack's game, so I'm cautiously optimistic.

A bit more realistic analysis but I still have hopes for better assist numbers and shooting this year. Three reasons: Starter, 2nd year, Good ankle (shooting will get better from this I hope)

Re: Jack starting @ PG - what you wanted?
I think Jack will do very well as a PG. He didnt show a great efficiency in getting assists last season, but he is a very good passer. He averaged around 10 assists a game in HS, and as a rookie he got 6 for the Yellow Jackets. I can see him averaging 5 a game next season, along with something like 9-11 points.

Re: Jack starting @ PG - what you wanted?
I agree the irony in all this is that the argument was always Blake vs Telfair. Jack was sort of the after-thought or "future" option. What makes all the comparisons so difficult was how different those three were from each other. I mean, Blake was an outstanding perimeter shooter who kept things under the coach's control, Telfair was quick to the basket and more improvising, while Jack was about defense and a strong move to the basket.
Blake was the best PG on the Blazers last year.
Considering their differences, it's amazing that McMillan was actually able to coach all three simultaneously.

Can anyone honestly argue that Roy for Telfair was a good decision? No, neither can be. Because we haven't even seen Roy play a single NBA game yet. Nor have we seen where Telfair's game is this season (as it hasn't started yet).
Regarding Jack, if he proves to be better then Telfair this year it's what I wanted. Because all I really wanted was for them to determine which was best and stick with that one. Apparently they think it's Jack, I hope they are right.

From the games I saw live at summer league, I saw that Roy was a much, much better player than Telfair. Granted, it's apples and oranges, but still.

Re: Jack starting @ PG - what you wanted?
I am happy! My order of preference when the season ended was Jack, Telfair and Blake. Even though I knew Blake ran the team better than the others, I have hope for Jack given equal experience as Blake. Jack is the superior defender of the three. Telfair - all his offensive potential - will always be a liability on defense - a liability I am not to miss very much. Blake is the vanilla PG. He did his job well, was the coach on the floor - but his athleticism was limited to what we saw. Blake is the best he'll be IMO. Jack can get better and possibly approach the level of TP.
So yes, this is what I wanted.

Re: Jack starting @ PG - what you wanted?
I was a total Telfair homer last year and I'd have to answer yes. The reason is that, imho at the time, the only way the team would trade Telfair is if we got something awesome in return. Having seen Roy during summer league I feel that the word awesome is appropriate.

I felt all 3 had short-comings on D. Jack and Blake had trouble with quick point guards and Telfair had problems with taller/stronger points. Blake I felt was the best at defending because he used his experience to keep his man in front of him. Blake also was the one defending Kobe because Dixon couldn't even slow him down, so his D couldn't be that bad. I hope Jack with a healthy ankle will improve on his defence of quicker point guards, although this year it won't be as important to keep his man in front of him because we have 4 players (24 fouls) who can block/change shots when he get passed by his man.

Re: Jack starting @ PG - what you wanted?
Jack v Telfair?
Telfair v Roy?
We need to revive this thread in about 9 months. I was never as big a fan of Telfair as some people here - but it is waaaay too early to write him off. I won't be surprised if he makes tremendous strides over the next 2 seasons.
As for Jack - I am going to with-hold judgement until we can all see what he can do with a healthy ankle and consistent playing time.
OK, I admit it.........the only way I would really be happy is if Chris Paul was our PG!
