Steve Blake Meets the Press in Milwaukee

Some of you may not care much about Blake any more, but I thought his comments from his first media day in Buck's country was very interesting, since he made several references to Portland:

Snippet (Press: Bold; SB: Steve Blake):
Quote:
What influences have your coaches had on you, especially Nate McMillian last year?
SB: Coach McMillian is a great teacher. He played point guard himself and is always teaching you. How to keep a guy off of you if he is pressuring you...finding guys and setting guys up. So he was always teaching through practices so that was always good to have.

Well, he's not going to make the all-interview team, but it is nice to see an ex-blazer not bash the organization on the way out.

Good point. I wouldn't expect that kind of behavior anyway from a classy guy like him. In fact, the only guys I could envision doing so on this team are Darius and possibly Zach.

I appreciate the post. I enjoy reading quotes from players that have been traded from the Blazers. They seem to produce something closer to the truth than we're use to receiving. Keep 'em coming.

Blake probably still has a li'l beef with the Blazers front office for kinda telling him one thing and then doing another but he doesn't seem like the kind of guy who would hold a grudge against the organization as a whole and certainly not the city of Portland, which he seemed to fall in love with.

BTW, the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel and the Racine Journal Times seem to be sorely lacking in coverage of the Bucks. Of course in Wisconsin its probably all about the Brewers, Packers and Badger football at this time of year. Not a whole lot of meat to be had for hoops fans. The Oregonian isn't that great but there's a LOT of reading to be had. Not to mention other blogs (Henry Abbott's TrueHoop is a daily hit -- I love that guy; Lance Uppercut hasn't updated Blazers Edge in a while ... hope he's okay; Blazer Thoughts is an excellent blog too). Milwaukee blogs? Google search didn't reveal much ... disappointing.

Re: Steve Blake Meets the Press in Milwaukee

I wonder where in the city of Milwaukee did they have the press conference? I mean was it at a brewery, or maybe at Laverne and Shirley's old apartment complex before they moved to California? I sure hope they didn't have it at someplace like the practice facility, or headquarters. Who does that anymore? They needed to have him ride away on a jet boat, or help put up hoops at a school. At least tell me it was pubilc so everyone could get autograghs.

That matters how you look at it. If you remember right, Blakes agent asked the Blazers if they are shopping Blake. They said no. Milwaukee came looking to trade MaGloire, and the Blazers intially offered Dixon plus Ha and Skinner. Milwaukee said no, they wanted Blake. So was that shopping Blake, or was it a team coming to get him? The Oregonian always tries to slant it so it was the evil blazer management screwing over another player or the fans or whatever sounds evil at the moment. I see it as they gave an honest answer, they weren't shopping Blake. Shopping Blake would be calling all over the league and offering him to teams as part of a deal. When a team comes knocking looking for one of your players, that is much different.

Point taken hasoos ... especially since its well documented now that Milwaukee very much coveted Blake. And I think I posted a few days ago that that ought to count for something -- being WANTED by a team.

Samuel, geez does that picture have to be so huge?

... not to mention uncharacteristically scruffy, but I guess he's had kind of a busy week and will have many busy weeks to come, what with that dad thing rapidly approaching.
