Why Did The Bucks Trade Magloire?
This Guy Still Doesn't Understand
Quote:
I am full of wonder at the trade announced by the Bucks this week that sent center Jamaal Magloire to Portland for a point guard named Steve Blake, a forward the Bucks had once, Brian Skinner and a project center named Ha Seung Jin, who will never wear the new colors of the Bucks.
My wonder is how you can unload Magloire, who filled the toughest position to fill in the NBA, for a trio of guys who are, figuratively speaking, a dime a dozen?......
......Larry Harris, the Bucks general manager, is the guy who pulled the trigger on the Magloire trade and the guy who was the subject of all that jaw-japping on talk radio.
"I'm not influenced by talk radio or the columnists," he said when I talked with him right after my conversation with Melvin. "There are a lot of nuances to making a trade that they don't know about. So when it's made, you go out and talk to people and try to tell them why you made the deal.
"Apathy is a terrible thing. And when they are talking about you, everybody has the right to their opinion. But with talk radio and the columnists it's usually about a player for player deal and there's so much more that goes into it.
"The Magloire trade was unique because we sat down and said we were moving Andrew to five (center) and if something made sense, we'd make a deal. But that was a unique situation."
Maybe so. But here's what we are left with.
The Bucks got three players of questionable value.
They gave up a center with proven value that is probably going to be a backup in Portland.
Talk radio guys and columnists are happy because they think this trade was necessary.
I, on the other hand, don't think trading a starting center that averages almost double figures in points and rebounds and was an All-Star is ever necessary. I think that the drumbeats to trade Magloire must have played some kind of a role in this trade because there aren't any other real good reasons to have done it.

Re: Why Did The Bucks Trade Magloire?
At least this guy has Magloire with high value to a team, unlike some here who are not so sure. Actually the trade was good for both teams or so it seems to me. (a banana for each team)
By the way ABM I for one, appreciate your digging up these articles and sharing them with us. It gives us a more rounded perspective on what others outside this form think. Thanks again.

Re: Why Did The Bucks Trade Magloire?
I really think they made a bad move. They made a great move getting Charlie V earlier in the summer and I think they just over thought their situation. All the sudden they found themselves a little weak at PG and panicked.
I think they could have picked up a slightly lesser PG and made due with the ones they had for a lot less then Mags.
I don't understand why they didn't just move Bogut to C and play Mags in a back up rotation at PF and C. Mags would not be complaining because he would have been able to 30+ minutes a game.

Re: Why Did The Bucks Trade Magloire?
i thought it was mostly bc magloire was a big headache kind of like darius is for us here, always whinning about playing time and demanding to be traded, so i thought they just wanted to get rid of him, no matter what, and this trade fit and worked so they did it. we're all on this board talking about how we'd trade darius for a bag of chips, at least the bucks got some players better than a bag o chips or stick of gum!

You thought wrong and are distorting and misrepresenting the facts. Magoire was their starting center all season long and averaged 30 mpg. After the season was over, Bucks management made it clear they intended to move Andrew Bogut to center, his natural position. As they already have a lower priced back-up center (Dan Gazuric), there was no place for Magloire in their plans. As Magloire is entereing the last year of his contract, and they have no intention ro re-sign him, it made sense to trade him now, while they could get something in return, rather than have him walk at the end of the season. Magloire never demanded a trade. He just said he'd meet with Senator Kohl and Larry Harris to explore mutually agreeable options. Comparing Jamaal Magloire's attitute to Darius Miles' is about as ridiculous as comparing his talent to Shaq's. Doing so makes you look like you don't have a clue and are just making stuff up.

Re: Why Did The Bucks Trade Magloire?
uhhh ok. you all just completely spazed out. all i was saying was he wanted to get traded and complained about his reduction in time (i believe i read he went from 30+ min to 20+ min) which darius has also done, so they wanted to get rid of him the same way we do. didn't compare their talent, didn't compare their level of biotchiness, just said he didn't want to be there so they moved him. honestly didn't even read the last response bc it looked too spazzy for me to waste my time.
