Re: The Outlaw: Travis
I'm with Sug on this, I still see potential with TO on the Blazers. Travis could fit in with this team . . . he is young, athletic, brings energy, has good character (even if a little ditsy), has shown improvement on the defensive side (help defense) and can grow with core of the team.
I think the tough decision with Travis is he is on the bubble of this trimming of the roster that has been discussed (if management is trimming the roster). With the Blazers holding so many #2 draft picks and KP at the helm, I wonder if Pritchard can find a player equal or better player than Travis.
The big question is what is Travis' value in the open market. I haven't seen any team or fans really talk about him, but I figure he has to be on some GMs radar screen.
I hope we resign him . . . otherwise what am I going to do with a pair of TO signed Adidas Blazer Shoes

Re: The Outlaw: Travis
If I get to update this thread for years to come I will be a happy man!
So how did he do this year? I am very happy with TO's progress this season, and I see him getting better next year. He clearly became a more efficent offensive player, I have included the advanced stats for basketball reference to show this. He added the 3-ball to his game this year, and was able to foul less. His blocks and steals went down, but he was certainly in more control on the defensive end this season. I also noticed that he was more under control on the offensive side, less charges(personal observation, no stat). The kid is only 23, which still blows my mind. I think you have to keep him, and let him grow. He is like a rose for Portland, he gets stronger every year.

I think he's a great candidate to be traded.

He will be a solid role player in the NBA. The question is if will be in Portland.

Wow, I think I'll listen more to this guy!

This was followed up with only 793 minutes in his second season, Even Martell Webster logged 1064 minutes in his first season, while fellow high schooler Sebastian Telfair received 1330 during his rookie season.
This past season only Martell played less minutes than Outlaw out of those four players. So I am wondering, could we see something more from Outlaw this year? In terms of stats, Outlaw has been somewhat of an enigma.

There are a few signs of encouragement though. For instance his turnovers stayed almost the same with an additional 400 minutes of playing time. That is a good sign, but on a negative note his fouls ballooned. While his rebounding saw some growth, his offensive rebounding needs to get much better. The fact that his assists, steals, and blocks did not see much growth is a little disturbing as well.
Stepping away from the stats, as a season ticket holder I had the opportunity to watch Travis live many times. Over the three years I have seen a lot of growth in terms of his understanding of the game. I remember in his second year all he would do was stand in one spot on offense. Last season he started to move more, and he started to play some okay defense. This is the year, as they say, that Travis must put it together. His NBA career depends upon it. If there ever was an argument for the NBDL, Travis would be it. Imagine if Travis could have played his entire rookie season in the NBDL, that would have been great. So for now I have high hopes for Travis becomming a decent player, but it will be interesting to see how he handles the pressure of his first contract year. I don't think Travis is lazy, I don't think he is unathletic in any way shape or form. I just think he was immature for his age, but I hope that all changes as we start the 2006-2007 campaign. I think Travis is a very nice person, and if he can develop some competitive fire this year, he could be a nice piece of a team I belive can make a run at the playoffs.

Re: The Outlaw: Travis
He has a lot to work on, but he has made huge strides that i'm really happy with. To get rid of him would leave a huge hole for us. Imagine Rudy and Outlaw in the 2nd unit, with Joel being the clean up guy on defense... Awesome 2nd unit.
He needs to work on passing, and contributing without scoring. He needs to not just go iso every time he has it, but work within' the offense. If he cannot, then he will never be a starter unless Roy is injured for some offense in the first unit.
I really hope he is with us for a long time, he is a great backup and a big part of our team on and off the court.
