Barrett: Magloire to be on CSMN tonight
http://fans.blazers.com/blogs/mike_b...courtside.html
He'll join the show at the top, at 6:05 pm. Also says that they'll announce tomorrow the details of the press conference.

I thought this portion was interesting form Mike's blog.....

With last week's news that the Phoenix Suns had signed Leandro Barbosa to a new 5-year, 33-million dollar deal, I was reminded how timing is everything in this league and how sometimes events that seem insignificant at the time can have huge ramifications on the future. I've mentioned this before, but I'm not sure if many fans realize how close Barbosa was to becoming a Trail Blazer last summer. Basically, if the trade of Shareef Abdur-Rahim to New Jersey hadn't fallen through at the last minute (the Nets said he flunked his physical) the Blazers would have used the second-round pick they would have gained in that trade, to trade to the Suns for Barbosa. The deal was basically done, and then everything fell apart when the Nets voided the Abdur-Rahim trade. He then signed a free-agent deal with Sacramento. In the end the situation worked out for the Blazers, and Barbosa. Obviously, Barbosa had a career year and got this huge contract. The Blazers, still needing a back-up point guard, signed Steve Blake instead. Blake had a terrific season, and the Blazers traded him for Jamaal Magloire last week. There are a lot of stories like this in the league from time to time, this is just reminder of how quickly things can change. A last-minute decision by the Nets, turned into Magloire in a Blazer uniform a year later.....

First I had heard of that as well. Barbosa in a Blazer uniform? Could have been interesting. Who knows if he would have done as well in our offense as he did in Phoenix, though.

Did Barrett say he went to his 20th High School Reunion? Man, I didn 't think he was that old! If he graduated in '86, I winder if he dressed like Adam Sandler in the Wedding Singer? We need to find a highschool picture of him and put it on here. I'm out like...........Boy George!

Re: Barrett: Magloire to be on CSMN tonight
Barbosa was fortunate to stay in Phoenix. Phoenix makes everyone have amazing stats...and add that Barbosa is a great shooter only helps to that. Barbosa isn't really a great PG, however, and he more often played SG or played PG when Diaw would play Point-Forward and handle the distribution of the ball.
He's definately a player and has finally proven himself with many 20+ point games this last year, but is not a prototypical PG.

So you are saying that a running style team would make everyone seem better?

That was my Reunion as well....didn't make it obviously. I didn't know the Baretts in High School other than thru the basketball team, etc. I'll try to dig up my yearbook but it may be buried deep in the boxes labeled "**** you can't throw away but will never see again."
BTW, this thread ain't making me feel any younger.
Peace

When did 38 become "so middle-aged"..?
Does that mean 30 is "just middle-aged"...?
Remember young one, "It's not the years that count...it's the mileage"

Well yeah, it's more fun to watch. Granted, it takes the right talent to make it work effectively, but look at how good Phoenix is (even without Amare this last year).
Running = more offense/points...more excitement...which brings more people to the games.
I'd rather slit my wrists than watch the Larry Brown coached Detroit Pistons...(okay, well maybe not...), but you get the point. Games with 100+ points on both sides tend to be more fun than games in the 70s and 80s.

Having a two-time MVP as point guard makes everyone look better, whatever the style of play.

Agreed -- Nash has a lot more to do with the Suns' success than their "system", which the coaching staff has stated is basically get the ball to Nash and let him create something.

Re: Barrett: Magloire to be on CSMN tonight
Look what I found. Some members of my research team found this for me. Is it me or is there a resemblance to John Travolta. Not Saturday Night Fever Travolta, but more of a Welcome Back Kotter Travolta. I bet if we all put some $$$ together,we might be able to get MB to grow his hair like that again. I'm out like.......... Vinny Barbarino!
