Another Miles scenario
One that doesn't do much for the Blazers other than dumping Miles.
Minnesota wants to cut loose Troy Hudson. The Blazers could use some depth at PG. Which leads us to:
Troy Hudson
Mark Madsen
to Portland and
Darius Miles
to Minnesota.

Re: Another Miles scenario
I think Miles would contribute more positive things to the Blazers in the 06/07 season than Troy could. Hudson is an injury prone overpaid backup that isnt even really a true PG. In short, he pretty much sucks.

Re: Another Miles scenario
I've got a slightly higher opinion of Hudson than TBG seems to but I agree with him that I'd rather have Miles. If someone on the team can reach him and/or he grows up some (he's still pretty young) he'd be exactly what this team needs. While I don't hold out a great deal of hope there, if he plays inspired ball in even 25 games this year, those might be the 25 the team wins. Hudson's unlikely to make such a difference.

Re: Another Miles scenario
I would certainly do a Trenton Hassell and Madsen swap for Miles and Dixon

Re: Another Miles scenario
The only way we'd do a deal like that is if we're convinced that Miles is a lost cause. I'm starting to think that the front office views him completely differently than a lot of the fans do. And that's re-assuring to me. They know him much better than any of us do. I'm warming to the idea of Darius being back this season and possibly staying long term.

Re: Another Miles scenario
It's true that if Miles decides he's really going to go to work and earn his paycheck, it's hard to imagine a better fit at the 3 spot (outside of guys like Shawn Marion). I, too, am increasingly interested to see if the culture's changed enough that it might work. Winning cures a lot and this team might actually win a lot of games (at least compared to last season) if Miles is really on board.
And if we get a month or so into the season and it's clearly not working, then somehow getting Hassell for Miles seems like an acceptable move. I can certainly see the 'Wolves being interested... I'd be ready to take a chance on Miles if I had a player like Garnett around.

Take Dixon out and the trade works. Yet another possibility.

Re: Another Miles scenario
My main concern if Miles does stay is the PT situation with Webster and Roy. Maybe either one of them could be the primary back up at the 2/3 with Roy playing some point guard as well. I'd like to see an 8-9 man roster... for the first time in a while, it's possible.

That is not what I am hearing about Miles. I think that management is saying what it needs to say in order to promote Daruis to fetch them the most for trading him. You keep hearing about how Randolph is working out in Atlanta, yet nothing about what Miles is doing. Why is that?
I am in the camp that says trade Miles, but not for garbage. I think he is worth more than a folding chair, but he isn't going to fetch you a Richard Jefferson either. If Portland had a reasonable trade partner for him I am sure he would already be gone.

How many more years does Miles have to do what he's been doing to make you a disbeliever? The guy is a waste of skin. Everything I have heard from management to people that have heard directly from management is that they don't want him, but can't trade him.
I'm serious about my first question by the way. How many more years does Miles have in your eyes. The guy has been an underachiever his entire career.

Who cares if he's an underachiever? The NBA is full of players that never live up to their promise, and even NBA champions have their share of those kinds of players on their roster.
Either Miles is good enough to earn minutes with the current roster or he's not.
Either Miles will treat the coach with respect or he won't.
Merely being an "underachiever" has nothing to do with anything.

Until we can get a close to equal or better trade out of him. I'll take an underachiever if that's better then what we would have to trade for (of course there are other considerations, expiring contracts, young potential, positional needs, etc, but I'm talking in general).

Re: Another Miles scenario
Bah. The Blazers don't have that much talent as it is. Dumping one of our best players for garbage is only going to make a bad team worse.
