Brandon Roy: A Top 50 player... already?
Though this should be filed under 'Fantasy Basketball' instead of 'NBA news', it's still good to see people thinking so highly of this future star.

Not really a question, but rather an observation. Brandon Roy is a very good player who appears to be caught in the "high beams." Watch this kid play – he has a style of play, smarts, incredible post moves and tenacity that he brings to every single game. Fifty is no big stretch; he could fit higher and back it up.

Re: Brandon Roy: A Top 50 player... already?
It seems kind of strange to me that a guy who hasn't played a minute of NBA basketball (no, summer league does NOT count) would be rated so high. It's nice to see some confidence out there in his abilities...
BTW: Felton as a top 50 player? For real?

Every year there's a rookie that's top 50 in fantasy league stats. A lot of people are picking Roy for Rookie of the Year. So it makes sense that he could be that player.

Agreed. From a fantasy basketball perspective, Roy has several things going for him:
-- a bad team (few other stats options, potentially more minutes than other rookies)
-- well-rounded game (good shooter, good passer, decent rebounder)
-- mature player (4 years in college)
The main downside is the uncertainty over a position (which might cut into his minutes) and Nate's brand of basketball (SLOW).
Top 50 seemed a reach at first glance, but now that I think about it I can see that being reasonable (from a fantasy perspective).

Yeah you're right because they did this stuff with Chris Paul too, ranked him really high and what not. And look what happened, he was R.O.Y. So hopefully Roy doesn't get injured and has a great season. Roy for R.O.Y.
Go Blazers! We have the R.O.Y.

I hope all this good press isn't giving a lot of fans really really high expectations of him. If comes out and scores 10 ppg and grabs 3 rpg through his first 5 games I wonder how many here will complain.
Seems to happen every year.

That's what I'm afraid of...fans desperately want a reason to be enthusiastic about the team. Roy plays well in summer league and suddenly everyone is jazzed. I hope people are understanding if he just has a mediocre year in trying to adjust to the game and his new coach.

All depends on Brevin Knight. When Knight plays, he's a suprisingly good player because he'll average 10 assists per game, not to mention great #'s for steals. When he's out, which isn't that rare, Felton steps in and averages a solid all-around game. He was owned in many a fantasy league last year, even when he started at SG alongside Brevin. It's hard to tell if Felton will stay in the top 50, but he has a good chance at it since his teammates have injury issues (G. Wallace, Okafor, etc.).
Roy in the top 50? Maybe. Last year Randolph was the only Blazer with any lasting fantasy value and the key is minutes. Minutes are the biggest predictor of fantasy value, because given the minutes, most players in the league will produce (with the exception of DeShawn Stevenson). If Roy gets 35 minutes per, then it is very likely for him to be a quality fantasy player.

The thing that makes me so confident about Roy is his ability to get to the hoop for a layup or a foul. He also creates for his teammates. Even if he gets limited minutes, I'm guessing he'll produce numbers that scream 'solid'.
