He didn't sound real gushy did he? Not even a "this is a great young team and I'm happy to be here, usual blah blah blah". Almost kind of refreshing,I didn't really take it as negative but guarded, considering all the buzz that hes trade deadline fodder. If his body can cash the check his mouth is writing,I can see him getting all the minutes he's wanting. That aside,my first and lasting impression is that if DM (and/or anyone else) start the crap again, slacking on the court, pouting, whining and generally doing their best to infect the locker room.....
Of course, since he was speaking Canadian,I may have got the wrong impression anyway.

Wow! I always thought my kids came up with that expression. "You know".

Re: Magloire finally comes out of hiding - press conference tomorrow
I didn't find it negative in the slightest. Like a lot of the new Blazers the last two years he came across as very articulate and mature. I loved the attitide. He is not going to take any Do not mask your cursing. He is exactly what they need in the locker room and on the floor. Obviously I was impressed.

I concur with the Chairman. I thought Mag sounded like the tough veteran presence that we need.
He can stuff Miles up the hoop if he acts up!
This is the real Terminator.

Re: Magloire finally comes out of hiding - press conference tomorrow
I'm really happy with everything he said, I am just hoping that he really is that presence in the locker room who lets the crybabies know that it is time to put up or shut up. It seems like we have seen several players come though who are supposedly the "veteran leadership" and it just didn't seem like they had an impact, assuming they even spoke up.
I'm also hoping that he earns, and gets the mins to go out and perform so that he stays happy, himself.

Re: Magloire finally comes out of hiding - press conference tomorrow
MB just posted a recap of Jamaal Magloire's day.
http://fans.blazers.com/blogs/mike_b...-magloire.html
I know this is Barrett who's reporting this, but man this made me feel a lot better about Jamaal than I did originally. He seems like a really down-to-earth, good guy.

Weird how we listen to the same interview and have opposite opinions. As others have said, I was left with the impression that we wasn't really happy to be here. Didn't seem very articulate either.
Not impressed, but he could probably kick Miles *** if he got out of line. If so, I just I hope I get to see the footage.

Re: Magloire finally comes out of hiding - press conference tomorrow
I've got a pretty good feeling Magloire won't be a Blazer a year from now.

Well, look at what the Hornets got for him. Desmond Mason and a first rounder...
We'll take Desmond Mason and a first round pick in 2007 for him.
Actually, that might not be a bad trade for either team.

I think you need to check your expectations a little bit. Not every pro athlete sounds like a jazzed up anchor man when they get behind the microphone. Personally, I'm a pretty enthusiastic guy, but when I get in front of a lot of people in a pressure situation, I sound like a freakin' robot. Plus, if you read Barrett's blog, you'd know that this interview was done first thing in the morning and at least according to Barrett, his enthusiasm was picking up and up as the day went on...
I was a bit dismayed by people's original comments in this thread before I had a chance to read Barrett's blog and listen to the interview myself.
Do I think that Magloire is tickled pink for the opportunity to play for Portland?
No, but it sounds like he is open to the situation, warming up to the idea and ready to work hard to earn his spot in the rotation and add veteran leadership.
What more could you really want or expect in his situation?

I'd definitely take that!
Although, if we don't nab Oden in next year's draft, I think it might be a very smart move to try and re-sign Magloire... certainly dependent on how things go this season.
Even if Aldridge is starting to emerge, if Magloire considerably outplays Przybilla, Joel is a very tradeable asset... having Zach/Aldridge/Magloire for some time could be a nice luxury.

The heck with another late first round pick...I think we'll keep Mags. We really need someone like him. Intangibles matter, too.

Re: Magloire finally comes out of hiding - press conference tomorrow
I like his comments from the Tribune...
Tribune
On coming to the team with the worst W/L record in the NBA.
“I feel good about the chance to contribute to a team that needs some help,” he says. “I’m looking forward to it. I have a lot of experience playing this game. In my six years in the league, I’ve been to the playoffs five times. There are a lot of guys on this team who probably have no idea of what I can do.
“The record shows 21 wins, but the team has potential. The reason I say that is, the resources are very good, the head coach is an ex-player and a proven coach, and we have some good young talent. Portland is a team that needs a center presence. They made the right acquisition.”
Zing! Sorry about that, Joel.
Magloire is in his contract year, making $8.3 million in the final year of his deal. Would he be interested in re-signing with the Blazers after becoming a free agent next summer?
“My first reaction would be yes,” he says. “I would like to find a home, find somewhere where I could stay and play for the rest of my career.”
Now I have to wonder what his second reaction would be?
