you can tell a lot about a player
by their 2nd year, especially if it is right out of college. I was looking over clyde drexler and terry porters stats, and it seems like their 2nd year was their breakout year. I know in todays nba there's alot of highschool kids, but I don't think judging a college kid by his 2nd year stats is a bad thing. I think if this team is going to take off, take a look at jacks 2nd year stats, and do the same for martells and roys stats. If they are still struggling, I think it's curtains for them.

Re: you can tell a lot about a player
Another way to look at your example is to look at the players age. Drexler came out after his Junior year at Houston - or about 21 yrs, and Terry Porter came out a Senior at Wisconcin Stevens-Point or about 22 years.
Let's see what our youngsters do at that age. I believe this is one reason that this is definately a make or break year for Travis. He's 21. And it's his contract year.

We all agree that if you aren't playing well by the end of your second season, you will never make it in the NBA.

Re: you can tell a lot about a player
You can't put restrictions on players like that. Depending on the team they are on, or how much PT they got. Different players develop differently. Jermaine O'neal guarded the Gatorade with us for 3 years. Ben Wallace didn't blow up until he was in the league 5 years. Bruce Bowen, T-Mac, the list goes on. Blanket statements like that are weak!

blah watch travis turn into darius miles. play like crap 3 years, then 4th year play almost to his potential, then after signing some rediculous contract, goes back to being a lost little soul on the court.

Re: you can tell a lot about a player
In most high school players cases, they usually don't break out until their 4th or 5th year. They usually don't get much playing time the first two, the 3rd they get a little more, and the 4th or 5th they finally put it together.
College players usually, like you said, put it together within their first 3 seasons of entering the league.
I'm not saying this is the case for all players, as there are some exceptions, but these, atleast IMO are how players develop.

I highly doubt that...Travis, unless he totally breaks out for 15/5/3 this season, then his next contract won't be much bigger than his rookie one.
